Re: Programming NVRAM without EPROM programmer??
Nope, you need a programmer of some description.

Re: Memcal id
Ahh ok, I haven't come across that type of protection scheme before.
In that case, disregard just about everything I wrote

Re: Memcal id
The copy protection is there to stop you from being able to read it
What happens when you try it in your car, does the high speed fan come on with ignition?

Re: VS 5L into 2a Landrover
An eprom programmer is a device that can directly read and write to the memory IC that the bin is stored on. In a standard memcal that memory IC is an EPROM. To write to an EPROM you first need to erase it by exposing to UV light. These are the ICs with a little glass window usually covered by a sti...

Re: Memcal id
The chip with the sticker looks like its there for copy protection - it would be easier to convert a standard memcal to NVRAM than to use this one. Apart from the copy protection, it has the netres configurable for different cyl configs, but has no provision for limp mode. You can usually fool those...

Re: VS 5L into 2a Landrover
The generic v8 bin in the 12P zip file should get you up and running. If you're running non-standard injectors you'll need to adjust that, but otherwise it should be a good enough starting point. Otherwise, have a look through the custom bin thread (https://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&am...

A wideband O2 sensor is well worth the money. I like the 14point7.com widebands, but there's a few brands to choose from.

Re: VS 5L into 2a Landrover
NVRAM replaces the memcal. The comms board effectively adds a USB port to the ECU so you can plug in a laptop with Tuner Pro (or an android phone/tablet using ALDLDroid). With a non-NVRAM memcal, the USB board will let you datalog and read the bin, but when used in conjunction with the NVRAM you can...

Here's an 808 for $30 delivered: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/VN-P-Commodo ... 2328892905 (no memcal though).
Then just add an NVRAM and USB comms board.
