That's one pretty car Yellow and I bet there's NOT AN OIL LEEK IN SIGHT You won't believe the schedule we have now....the afore mentioned 'powers that be' have brought the initial presentation date forward to the second week in in Maaaarrch. Basically we've got to have a running, pretty much finished racecar circulating the track on, I think the 10th. Although it doesn't have to be fully race prepared, you'll appreciate there's a lot to do. GTorf will obviously know best. As we speak Rollie is at the tube benders having his cage designed and cut, the tank's being made and the boys from Holland and Finland (you know who you are)are helping with parts and advice, and with an Auzzie car as the starting point, I can't fail...........can I?

If you manage to pull ths one off you'll have a job with the diplomatic corp. With the level of proven international cooperation to date, you'll be able to solve world conflict and poverty. Perhaps the Bellett will become the new "peoples car"... a bit like the Volksagen, the Trabant and the ....dare I say it......no I'd better not....PR91 will ban me from the forum and I might get Stickman going again Seriously mate, good luck and may Isuzeus, the God of Belletts, smile upon you

Yeah, when I contacted the bloke who runs that racecar photo business, he to dig deep to find those pics of Mac at Goodwood and when I bought them I was much relieved to see that the car was red (not biege like most books say) And of course now I've shown an interest, he's plastering copies across E Bay...cheers mate

Have a look at the new lightweight Rollie. Pics taken at the end of last week. Looks like me and Yellowperil are going head to head in a resto race.
Apart from a massive and very ugly rusty spot around the engine mount under the battery tray (I expect you seasoned Belletteers have seen this before... it looks like a brilliantly designed wet mud/leaves trap) the rest looks pretty good.
Floor is now in and cage is being inserted. And fingers crossed we're still on schedule.

Looks like there are three cars in the resto race i hope to have rolies replacement on the track on the 16 of march. I will post photo's next week . Mark there will be a panel packed to replace under the battery,the young fella that works for me cut it out with a oxy i would have prefered to unpick it. As you know time was a factor.

Yes, Greg we used the plate your bloke cut out, but sadly the old rust worm had eaten his way all along the chassis rail under the two round engine mounts and the other way in front of the rad. We used a few bits from the front cut and quite a lot of new metal, and we reckon it looks pretty sound now.

Not after tweek hints YET, PR, but I would like to know the purpose of the single transverse leaf spring across the rear suspension, it's got all the Pommie workshop scratching their heads.

It looks like our battery compartments are twins there. We should keep the rust we cut out and use it to make modern Bellett Art
I think the smart money will be on you and Gt orphanage beating me by somewhere between 11 and 14 months. YP

was refered to by isuzu as a 'camber compensator'. designed to limit the amount of pos to neg camber change the rear has when moving thru its total travel. they were probably ok when new, but 40 years on they dont help much... espech on a race car!
on mine, we use a combination of 3 leaf springs, all different lengths, clamped together, and it looks just like a normal leaf spring under the rear of alot of cars from back then. it works by limiting the travel while stiffening it, and i'm very happy with the combo i use. matter of fact, isuzu even offered as a "hot up" part 2 or 3 different multi leaf arrangements thru their spare parts division, and i know of at least 1 under a GT here in oz, and another that is sitting in a bellett owners shed for fitting to a car.... one day!

and remember, the rear under a bellett is pretty easy to set up. its the front end that needs the most attention.... some are bigger jobs, and some are very simple, while all help in a big way!

They didn't believe me back here, when I said it was a camber compensator bar. I used to have them on the back of my Triumph Vitesses, although that was a solid bar rather than a leaf spring I'm sure they did the same thing. At the moment we know exactly what we're doing with the front end, but not so sure about the back. But it looks like we start by beefing up the camber compensator with another leaf or two, would you agree?
