OK folks, this is "the Big One" for Canberra, Shannons wheels. To be held on the lawns in front of old Parliament House (a large, park with lots of trees) on Sunday 29 March. There will be over 1100 vintage, veteran, historic, classic, modified cars, commercials, fire engines, radio controlled cars and motor cycles on display. Everything from Alvises to Wolseleys, from Minis to hotted toranas to Celicas, MX5s, American iron, Rolls Royces whatever (however, I've yet to see a Bellett there). Entry is free for all and no entry form is required to exhibit - just show up. There will be stalls for food and drink, or bring a picnic and sit under the trees. I'll be there, probably with the Sunbeam Alpine. Here are the Skylines from 2007 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LASE9wb0SoFor those less interested in cars, within walking distance are the National Gallery and Portrait gallery, National Library, Questacon (Science centre), National rose gardens, Museum of Democracy etc. Most of these have free exhibits. Civic centre (shopping) is 5 minutes drive away. the War Memorial (one of the best museums in Australia) is about 7 minutes drive. Cheers, Vic

Went to check the diary Vic, & it's telling me March 29 is a tuesday! 27th (?) is free at the minute. Would be good to get a Bellett or 2 there! Cheers mate. Matt.

Er yes, the 27th sounds more likely, my powers to change the relationship between day and date seem to be fading. Curse these dyslectic fingers! Vic

Well it was a great day, spoiled only by an absence of Belletts. In fact there weren't really a lot of Japanese cars. A handful of Gemini's, some of Brett's beloved Mazda rotisseries, Some Mazda MX5s a couple of Datsuns and some Celicas. some pics follow - I'll make another post for some of the interesting non-Japanese stuff. Cheers, Vic

OK here's some of the pommy contingent. In order of appearance: 1) 1948 Hillman 2) 1963 Sunbeam Rapier (this car has a highly modified motor and is pretty quick) 3) 1963 (?) Humber Super Snipe. These cars were used as Government Ministerial cars back in the 1960s 4) 1955 Humber Hawk 5) AC Aceca (Bristol engine) - A rare British sports car (about 170 made). 6) Swallow Doretti another rare Brit (270 made) from 1954/5 based on the Triumph TR2

Ohhh nice Vic! Sorry that I wasn't there. It's so close that I should be able to go easily. My only excuse is that my daughter & 3 of her schoolmates made it to the State Swimming championships. (4x50m P6 freestyle relay) So things had been even busier with training & etc. Looks like it was a nice day (I knew it would be!) with plenty to see. Thanks for showing us - must TRY to be there next year - It's just wrong that there are no Belletts! (Is thet a Marina behind the Rapier? NOOOOOOO, they've outnumbered Belletts!!) Like the Aceca - Nice coupe. Cheers, Matt.
