Hi Guys, I am trying to fit a thermostat to my Wasp, but not having any luck. Can anyone tell me what part numbers to look for for both thermostat and housing please ? I am running a Florian head, if that makes any difference for compatibility.

There is a thread on page 3 of this section. I'm a numpty, so the link didn't save, but is says you can use a W033 housing from kilkenny castings. The thermostat is a TT1-160. There are a few brands, but common is Tridon. TT1 -180 is more likely to be in stock, but its a 180 F. opening instead of 160. Too hot! Also I have had a new one not work, so watch for that! There are other brands on ebay, Gates, etc. From memory the Flo head has a recess for the stat, so you will just need a standard thin gasket. 3 bearing heads have no recess, so a thick gasket is needed, with a hole larger than the stat diameter, otherwise the housing can be cracked by pulling it down onto the stat sholder. Thanks Matt (and James ), I will check the part numbers against what I have here. It seems as though the head has been skimmed to achieve a flat surface, no recess there for the thermostat.

Hi Warren. On my sedan, when the motor was being overhauled, I tried a WO33 and had fouling problems with the tappet cover. A alloy head with a stack of corrosion. My re conditioner had to do a lot reclaiming to do and machining the thermo. seat. I even sliced a section off of the outlet and found that the outer sealing area was insufficient. I went to a local auto parts supplier and asked if I could go through his stocks. I new he had stocks from the previous owner and they had been there for quiet some time. 20 years.? WO1 was it. Yes. The very first outlet that Kilkenny Castings had manufactured for the Falcon XL to XP range. A slight angle of a few degrees to the rear but the hose went on but with a slight kink. Nothing to be alarmed with. Use a 160 degree thermostat as the engine runs cooler with the appropriate coolant as well.
