Post subject:  Oil separator

Hi, may have posted this in another section but anyway - I am missing the oil separator. Could buy one from Repco but having the 'real' thing is always better. Thanks if anyone can help. clyde

gday clyde
which type of separator is it you need??
there were 2 types. 1 had the breather tube (the top tube) pointing along the engine, and the other had it pointing at the air cleaner. the one pointing along the engine is for a sedan, the other is GT.
cheers.

Typical that there would be two types. Is NOTHING simple?

Please post images of the two different types of oil separators, if possible. I have been dealing with another car that dumps oil from the valve cover into the air filter canister on hard right turns, and have been researching oil separators for a while.

My engine is a GT (G161) so I am not sure which one would suit. There is only a hose running from the filter canister to the sump. Mine has a cast iron head if that makes any difference. cheers, clyde

Hi, best I can work out from pics one with the outlet pointing to the air filter canister would do the job....guess the other outlet comes out the bottom or lower side. Thanks to anyone who has one laying around without an engine attached. Let me know how much. cheers, clyde

Hi all, I think I have found a decent oil separator that should do the job. I had to order it as the mob here did not have any in stock. Should be here in a week or so and I will send some pics after it is installed. Meantime I obtained a pic of it - attached for your viewing.

I have seen those from a few different places. I think Saleen or one of the Ford specialists offer them for the 5.0 or 4.6 liter V8 engine in the $100 range. But the unit appears to be the economy version of an air compressor moisture separator. The little clear plastic tank about 2 inches in diameter, overall height 5 inches, and the tapered pipe fittings in the top. These sell for $12-25 in discount tool stores (without any hose fittings attached). I tried one of these on my air compressor and it did nothing to remove water from the line. In fairness, I replaced it with a $60-80 industrial moisture separator and it keeps water out of the line only half the time. Something about pumping air through the hose condenses the water no mater what.
I hope it works better with oil than with water...
