guys, this is the same GT that was on my105.com.au and on here too. it's in a million pieces, and needs a total, bare shell resto, so 5,500 is probably about right. cheers. |

Here's a link: http://www.my105.com/ListingDetails/tab ... fault.aspx Yes, this one was actually proper value, which has been unusual for an Australian GT over the last 12 months. It took a couple months to sell. Sadly, another project is not on my radar. |

I can't work this out a gt in the low double figures seems to be a unreasonable price . But a project at $5500 is a reasonable price . What am i doing wrong because i can not build that project to a standard of these cars that have moved in the last few years. Duane for example said you spent $1000 just on two doors. car $5500 paint $6000 & panel interior $2500 engine completion $1500 radiator $ 400 brakes $1000 inc caliper chrome $2000 total of $18900 would be my estimation of the true value of this car. As we don't know the condition of these bits we can assume 40 years of wear. |

Thats my point pay $15000 screw on number plates and play. You will miss out on the pain of skinned knuckles, professionals that say it will be done in two weeks that returns months later half done than your are the a$$ because you mentioned that you dropped the work here because you are supposed to do a good job . Fact that 80% of restoration jobs do not get finished thats why this one was for sale maybe. btw my advise to anyone doing a resto is get all the parts ready before you need them most of the trim, chrome, parts are stored for patches ready to be bolted on when it returns from the paint shop. I also have bits powdercoated and parts for old yella 69gt my next and last project, i am done then .For my own anyway Liz has a couple i have to help with. |

I believe Greg's $tag is very conservative for cost of rebuilding a project car. $18900 would be the kind of figure you'd expect to pay if you did all the prep work and hands on stuff yourself. Start paying someone else to do all the labour intensive and fiddly things and you can expect to near double the cost of the build. Paint alone can set you back upto $5-6K for a decent job if the panel beaters have to do all the straightening, filling and preping before hand. For a show quality finish you'll be up for $10K+ paint and body alone. I also believe the sad reality is that as Bellett enthusiests and collectors we only have ourselves to blame for the relatively low $ value of our rare little cars. Sure they aren't a very well known car in the general population but if we as owners are only prepared to pay minimal $ for them then why the hell would anyone else pay top dollar for them. We all want a bargin but if we aren't prepared to pay then no one ever will. A turn key GT in my opinion is worth every cent of $16-24K (dependant of condition and mileage of course) and who's to say a sedan can't pull $10K+. If a Mazda/Toyota/Ford/Holden or whatever can, why the hell not a Bellett? WA GT for $5500 - BARGIN!!! (I'd pay that for a tidy teardrop) |

Have to agree with all the comment regarding the cost of a re-build. One of my mates has been doing some basic bodywork and its costing 3-5K easy. He reckons a body with a bit of rust and some minor panel damage is heading towards 10K. The cheapest part of the re-build is the mechanicals and the bolt on bits and pieces! Reckon a 95% complete GT is well worth all of 13K Question has to be asked is an original, low mileage GT worth 15K? (freegards) OZ |

oz_toffa wrote: Question has to be asked is an original, low mileage GT worth 15K? (freegards) I would have gone close at that price, had they rebuilt the brakes and put rego on it...but they won't, and the price remains at $24k despite my best efforts. They're quite entitled to stick to their guns, but it's a shame a reasonable car is going to waste in a damp shed whilst they do. |

But that is the case with some folk and their cars, Duane. My last advert for Bellett's in the Advertiser showed up an owner with 2 sedans who had seen an old Kawasaki bike being sold for 5-6K in need of resto and he now thinks his 68 deluxe(in his words 85% car) is worth 5K and his 67 1/2 sedan is worth 3K(a 60% car) i said his cars were likely to sit in the back yard and rot as no one is willing to pay that type of money my 98% deluxe sedan cost less than 3K (good buying i think). Guess its the old story of supply and demand and if 3 people want it badly enough, the price will increase till someone's pocket or wallet is empty. Sorry but its not the game i am prepared to play. Sit tight and the right car will come along, eventually. OZ |

The bendigo gt was the bargain after Gerry's car. I think $24000 is top dollar but the figures above do not allow for brakes, points, leads, hoses and all the other goodies that flow into them. Duane if its brakes and rego stopping you? you would get them both for under $1500 if you turned up with $22000 i reackon you will own it. I was shocked when i saw how much they wanted for it. depends what you can get from japan but at that price you need to have a holiday facted into the price. We have a gt in the same condition if someone can put it back on the road to a high standard for $ 7500.I will pay them $2000 for their effort . |

EDIT: $22k!!! Are you serious??? Only if they throw in the best sedan in Australia as well. The asking price is beyond top dollar - we all know it, whether we own a GT or not. That's fine, they can raise the bar, but you have to have a concourse restoration or near new original to do that. The Freegard GT is a very nice little car, but is neither concourse nor mint original. The car has not sold, which vindicates my position. I don't think they're losing any sleep over it, neither am I. They were nice enough people, so I should keep my dealings to myself. The Bendigo car was a nice start for a resto, but not worth $10k IMO. If you can pick up a 95% complete resto on eBay for $12k, why would you pay $10k for the starting point, then add the cost of bodywork, paint, engine, brakes, etc, etc? Anyway, good on Thierry for approaching us before moving it on, I'm not sure what he sold it for (nor care), but I'm sure it went to an enthusiast. |
