Hey all

This car is in central Georgia and has the usual Bellett issues, brakes need work, the fuel tank is being emptied of it's sediment and old gas .....

The lady I spoke to was pleasent and I asked a couple of times what they want to get for this car, and the answer was make an offer .... fair enough

What would a car like that be worth in the U.S????

To have it landed in Australia (with duty, GST, quarantine, etc) for AU$10k, it'd have to be less than US$4k for the car...if you reeeeaaally wanted one. I thought these late model one's go reasonably cheap in Japan, so you could get one in similar condition from its homeland for a bit less?

Go on Mark, you KNOW you want it! Not a common opportunity.
You'd have a nice pair of two-doors.
Go for a nice drive, take the lady a nice apple pie, have a cup of tea and congratulate her on how well she's kept it. Once you find out it's history, you'll know how much she wants it to go to a good home. Then you just need to show her that's your home.

Matt your right that would be cool as .... and it would fit in the garage, I'm just not sure how well it's going to fit it the budget just having replaced 330ft of fencing on the property and with Christmas around the corner .... the little kids want toys too ...

but the story of the cake and tea driving around with the lady did conjure up some funny images in my mind ...

Price? I think degruch is close in his post...are the early GT's that much more desirable to command such price differences? is it production numbers? I've wondered ....

I'm hoping someone is going to give this car some love, not that I'm a big fan of this late model deal with those headlight/grill surrounds and big square tail lights ...

maybe the seller has some offers already good luck to all, I am surprised it hasn't more buzz here in n.america.

Anyone noticed the recession / depression / global economic crisis lately?

Under the best of circumstances, there were two people with the resources to work on early Isuzus in North America. The 117 Coupe guy got out of Isuzus, shipped all his cars back to buyers in Japan, and is done with the subject. And as for the second person, that high pitched twanging sound is me being stretched so tight that I emit a high E Sharp when strummed.
There are two or three other people on this forum who are putting forth a good effort with respectable results, and I exclude them from the following comment.
The entire remainder of what could be called a "scene" is made up of high school dropouts, who flip burgers for a living, and wanna-gonna-shunna-but-never-succeed at gutting one of a handful of the remaining turbo AWD car engines and drive trains to put into their FWD car so they can go out and street race their friends whose parents bought them new cars.

I get the feeling this is another of those cars that looks like it is in perfect condition from 100 yards away, but once you get close enough to touch it, you find out that it is one big rust blister, covered with a thin and about to flake layer of paint, and don't lean on it or the rust bubble will break and all that will be left is dust.
I have not seen any of these that was not described as "needs a little brake work", which actually means that the front pads are gone, the rotors were cut down to pizza cutter thickness, and the car was finally parked to rust because it was too dangerous to drive. New rotors exist one place. Anyone up for a multi-thousand dollar adventure only to find that there are no caliper rebuild parts to be had.
And how about five thousand dollars for new window weatherstrip?

Ten thousand Australian dollars to buy it and ship it to the other side of the world?
The US Dollar and Australian Dollar are about one-to-one now. For $10,000, I could pay for purchase of, and drive-on-drive-off boat transport of, just about any of the non-DOHC cars on Eagle Sayama/Isuzu Sport's lot. Or, one of the three GT Fastbacks that is still listed for sale. And all of those options actually drive under their own power when you get in and turn the ignition key.

What's that one worth? One dollar more than the second highest offer.
Any non-fan of the car is going to shy away because they do not know the difficulty level they that might scare them away, and if they actually knew the level, they would run, not walk away. That leaves the irrational fans who think with their heart and not their mind.
If the trunk were stacked full of 40 year old Japanese fog lamps, it might be worth a couple thousand dollars in sales of a pairs of lamps to Australian buyers at $300 per pair for the same lamps selling on Yahoo Japan for $25 per pair.

Oddly, those same recession exempted buyers on the other side of the world are not spending much if any money on new US made parts. They look and "click to watch". For the people unfamiliar with the auction websites, "click to watch" is the button that bookmarks an auction listing so that you can go back and look at the listing again, instead of spending money and buying it. Usually going back to look after the listing is expired. It is sort of the thick catalog with glossy pictures so that people have something to look at and dream about after they win the lottery.
It is a truly lousy time to try to sell anything, and even worse to try to sell anything for what it should be worth or what it cost to make. Best to just pack everything up and put it in storage and hibernate until the next economic boom. Hope they still have gasoline left when the world recovers.

Why isn't there more buzz?
Because everyone just "clicks to watch". No one has any money to spend.

I don't think you can get anything out of the US that would be value here, compared to Japan (or NZ for that matter). I had to shelve plans to get a really schmick Saab Sonett from the States (for only $5k) a few months back, because my job (highly reliant on US customers) is a bit wobbly, so I don't think anyone's immune at the moment. The seller is doing as you suggested, and just wheeled the car back in to storage.

Off the subject, but has anyone noticed NOTHING sells on eBay lately? Lots of 'click to watch' going on there. Gumtree, on the other hand, is a fantastic place to sell. Anyways...I digress...as you were.

hi duanne things do sell on ebay i missed out on a glove box lock ,a wasp handbook ,and 5 mins ago a canadian bellett brochure , i sold my gem camry 2 weeks ago ,my wife has a site which does well on ebay but we are talking small amounts $$$ is what people have now ....the car in melb ?it ill be featured monthly now its cheap ? go get it duanne cheers davo

Hehe...'no projects' is still the moto here. If the Vic Bellett was in Adelaide, I would have bought it and wrecked it by now...so you guys wouldn't want me to get my mits on it.

A rough running GT is fine, but this one is a just a tad far away, bound to be too expensive when landed, and 'brake work' = hasn't moved in 5 years = project. The way work is shaping up, I'm happy to forget about Bellett's, 240K's, Saab's, MG's, Lancia's and all the other stuff I've nearly purchased in the last 12 months...but do have a nice Stude in the pipeline for after Christmas. Plus, there's the slowly regenerating Bond!

As for eBay, I see the same 500 cars in the 'Collector Cars' section of eBay week in week out...until they get bored and take 'em off. I had a guitar on eBay for a month, no bids, just a few lowballers offline...threw it on Gumtree, gone in 2 hours! I'm sure eBay doesn't work any more, unless you want to sell at half price, but that's just me obviously.

Anyways...this thread is slowly becoming a rant!

While we're off topic and having a little rant.....
Ebay is feeding me atm as I sell off all my worldly possesions just to keep a roof over my head and food on the table each week.
My old silky oak furniture and oher odds and sods laying around have been selling like hot cakes and for a lot more than I ever paid for it.
Some items I have mde triple the $ on. Only 1 item hasn't sold out of 20+ this month.

Back on topic......
There is something about those hideous headlight surrounds that that I find irresistably beautiful and I LOOOVE the chunky square taillights. They are P H phat!!
I know they don't appeal to everyone but I love 'em.

Good on ya Sticky, that is the same as the NZ Bellett withouth headlight surrouds, Just trying to make the tail light comply with ADR is the problems. nearly have it beat.

separate little orange light hung under each corner of the bumper (like the original reflectors were) like they use on alot of hotrods these days should do the trick.
and when nobody's looking and it's on the road for a while, take them off and connect the originals again....

but i didn't say that last bit!!

Maybe it's just rare collectable guitars and cars that don't sell? I rarely list much on eBay now, I've got sick of giving away my stuff...so if anyone wants some bass guitars, a giant bass cab and a Wacom graphics tablet, you know who to call.

The strip tail lights are my favourites (watching for Sticky's Bellett on eBay now), the square ones would have to come second, I reckon they're great. The grille does nothing for me though...although I appreciate Isuzu's efforts updating the car at the time!

the rarest Bellett's that came to Australia too, so the GT search just got even harder!!
