Awesome work, have always been impressed with these engines.
What did you eventually do to sort out the twin dizzies?

Re: Toyota Powered VL Calais
it might have a custom made ignition module on it
nice work VL400, i know its been a long time coming!!
for those that don't know VL400 has had push buttons on the steering wheel to work the Lexus auto, this mod will allow him to run the auto as a proper auto and delco to boot

No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Re: Toyota Powered VL Calais
I will post more info about the module in another thread but basically its a universal ignition system for a delco. Has 8 outputs and can be configured in any way from single output to full sequential 8 cyl. For the Toyota 1UZ it reads the 12 tooth crank trigger and the cam signal, and it will support other trigger options as I get time to add them.
Here are some vids of the module running a V6. Uses the 18x and 3x signal and drives 6 LS1 coils in wasted spark .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exPTJqB0fQ4
And some 2 step RPM limit action from the module .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDy3ee9ujI0

Re: Toyota Powered VL Calais
This I am VERY Interested in.
I am about to do a conversion into a 4runner manual with a 1uzfe.
Word of this gets out into the conversion world you will be very busy I can tell you.
I have been studying the engine management system and even though it is reasenably easy to do,
There is a lot of room for improvement.
Can I have some details please.

Re: Toyota Powered VL Calais
Got the trans interface proto made up and gave it a quick test today, so far seems to be ok. It takes the shifter position switches of a Toyota trans and makes the 3 range position indicators that the Delco PCM expects, it also has high side drivers for the shift solenoids (GM uses low side), a higher current TCC driver and reversing lights driver.
Had to make a 'dead bug' mod due to not having an inverting open drain output IC... And top side.. Will be re-laying the board once its proven to work, for now its designed only to be a single sided home made PCB so the wiring is attached all over the board!

Re: Toyota Powered VL Calais
so has there been a drive yet or just seeing what the logs say when you move the shifter etc with engine off ?

Only on the axle stands at the moment, the radiator was looking really sad so need a new one before any test drives.

Re: Toyota Powered VL Calais
Bit more progress made, have now got the trans all hooked up and working. Holden202T sent me over a CTS sensor ages ago and this is now my trans line temp sender.
Had some issues with the speed sensor but I think that is solved now. Have not got a before picture but it was a sealed and potted (think silicone filled) reluctor to square wave sender. The thing was you got a reluctor signal out with no power, it was actually working ok but at around 60kph it would drop out and the PCM would selct 1st gear
Opened it up and made some mods Removed the potting with some MEK solvent, not 100% removed but enough to work out what was going on inside it. Found the reluctor coil wires and removed the wires that go to the internal conditioning circuit, then removed two other wires and soldered to the reluctor coil direct.. And all back together...
And a quick test stand run up through the gears... Got a bit carried away load testing and running up at high speeds, now the rear brakes are blue.
