Hi guys,

About time we organised a Bellett 50th Anniversary Birthday Bash!

I've been speaking with Laurie who lives out near Mannum and he has a mate who is happen to open his shed to us to check out his collection of old Holdens and vintage caravans.

What I'm proposing is:

09:00 - Meet at Mount Torrens - this will give southerns and northerns a central-ish place to meet up
09:30 - take off to Mannum via Terlinga Road. Turn right onto Randell Road (main road to Palmer, then Mannum)
10:00 - arrive Mannum - find Laurie
10:30 - take off to Walker Flat via the road EAST of the Murray; this will give us a go on the quaint ferries and a different drive (see map)
12:00 - arrive Walker Flat; grab some lunch (nothing fancy; pie or something at the Riverfront Store?)
13:00 - visit Laurie's mate
14:30 - take off back to Adelaide via more direct route to Mannum, then back home via whatever routes necessary

Initially when I spoke to Laurie, I was thinking we might have lunch at that club again, but if we spend 1-2 hours with Holden guy (depending on how much stuff he's got and how interesting it is, I guess), lunch would be pushed out quite late, especially if we encompass the longer 'scenic' route around the east side of the river either going up or going back.

The lunch venue isn't ideal but I'm sure it'll be fine.

If anyone's got any other ideas to help sort this out, that would be great.

Also, now we need to find a DATE!

Laurie can't do:
24 August or 31 August

I can do:
10 August
16 August
23 August

Let me know a preference over the next few days and we'll try to get something concrete in.

Don't forget to bring $20.00 for each Bellett 50th Anniversary badge you've ordered; I have them all here, but things have been crazy and I've not been able to action much!!!

Cheers,

Dave

Sounds like a bonza roundtrip with Bellett'n freinds, Dude !!

I had scheduled the 17th as this was in line with Vic dates closest to the actual day of the 50th year of Belletts in Australia. But hey, i can do 16th instead :D .

BTW, both 10th and 23rd are goas, rostered off duty. But I'm flexible with what the outcome is.....CAUSE WE GOTTA DO IT !!!!

For info sake....
The rest of Australia (Qld, NSW and Vic) are all doing their events on Aug 17 at the same time.
It was discussed and organised that way to make it a truly nationwide celebration.
Cheers.

Agree Rod, Brett, that's the way it was originally organised.

Would be good if it could be done all over Oz on the same day. I don't think Dave has that flexibility atm with his position at Shannons and what's been happening on the home front. As I said, I am a little more flexible even though I do work 10 day shifts over every second weekend (sucks :( ) and it's getting harder to get a stand in even for one day.

Once date is firmer I would like to come along.
I was wondering how many of your wives/partners/girlfriends are coming along (or actually Jill would like to know).

Cheers
Rob

Hello out there, any other takers ?? Important celebration you know ;)

OK guys, 23rd it is.

I would prefer to have it a week later than the rest of Australia than have it on Sunday 17th and have nobody there.

I will Laurie a call over the weekend and see if we can sort out the trip to Walker Flat.

Who is in, then?

Me
Bruno
Josh pa_man?
...er anyone else?

Rob, certainly my wife won't be there; she's got something else on (baby shower that she's organised for a friend that's being held at our house, so I suppose she should go!).

Cheers,

Dave

Baby shower at your place....that means you NEED to get out'a there :P

Turns out 23rd is my Mom's 84th Birthday. Tho i did discuss the importance of the one off Bellett thing with her and the difficulty in getting as many people together for the same date. She's also OK with 1 day late for her celebration.......Bellett 50th 1 week late, Mom's birthday 1 day late, go figure :?

you can count OZ in there with Roman's bells on.
15 year old tyres don't hold the road in a tight left hander at 50km/h???
so it will be back to the black cross-wires for the river run day

cheers boys and girls

Hey guys,

I've spoken to Laurie and there needs to be a slight change of plan, but the good news is that it doesn't really impact on the start time or anything.

Now the plan will be:

09:00 - Meet at Mount Torrens - this will give southerns and northerns a central-ish place to meet up
09:15 - take off direct to Walker Flat ASAP
10:00 - arrive Walker Flat - find Laurie at Walker Flat General Store (behind Riverbank Kiosk) and follow him to mate's house
10:00 - 12:00 (at the latest) - visit Laurie's mate and check out his Holdens and caravans
12:00 - grab lunch back at Walker Flat General Store - they do pies and pasties as well as made-to-order hamburgers and pizzas
13:00 - take off back to Adelaide via the road EAST of the Murray; this will give us a go on the quaint ferries and a different drive (see original map)

Actually it compresses the day up a bit, but both Laurie and his mate are heading out after lunch to a car club event elsewhere that includes an overnight stay, so they need to get away as early as possible after lunch.

Hope that's OK with people, but it beat changing the date!

Cheers,

Dave

Will be there. Possibly a few of us heading up from this end of town can start together. Maybe meet at my place or at the TTG Hotel carpark at 8:00am for 8:15am kick off ?

Still think it should be the 17th...still negotiating shifting Moms birthday by a day....they get a little difficult at 84  :?

Hey Rob, is Jill not going now? Liz wants to go but is still a bit up in the air, coz she is swatting for exams and my moms birthday show is on the Sunday. Bummer when you gotta chose

When I know which way she wants to swing, there could be a seat in Blue Beastie...and you are most welcome to occupy it :D

Otherwise I'm sure some one this end will have a spot.

Also, if evreyone from the Northern end want to meet for the first leg to Mt. Torrens, could be fun, maybe breakfast somewhere?? Just a thought

Yeah, if Liz goes Jill might come. Otherwise it's not as much fun for her.
But then would have to decide if use the Falcon as ferry vehicle, not as much fun either.
Better charge camera batteries just in case ;)
