About ready to kick the tech2... stupid thing keeps asking:
F1,56,00,XX

Which the VT BCM should reply back with "F1,56,00" I think. Or, it pauses communication for a very brief second.. since I think 56,00 actual means reset? Maybe?

Either way, no matter what I do.. the damn thing is just none stop "beeping" saying lost communications... with intermittent times where I can see the screen.. *sigh*. Not sure what this damn thing wants!

The day of reckoning has arrived finally.. hooking up a VZ V6 ECU, PIM and BCM. Time to see what REALLY happens with this whole "resetting" and "relinking".

I have a feeling that PIM and BCM perform their reset/relink over ALDL. And the ECU will do its reset/relink over CAN. So Ill need to have both logging at once.

I think from memory, my ECU's I have have already been reset. But I dont think my PIM and BCM have been so Ill crack into those first.
From my understanding, the linking procedure *should* be:
-Reset PIM,ECU ect.
-Link PIM to BCM first
-Link ECU to PIM/BCM next.

I dont have harness's made up for any of these.. so its going to interesting trying to wire it all up!

Made some progress.. I guess?

So I have a VZ V6 (E55) ecu on the bench + VZ V6 PIM + VZ V6 BCM. None of these are linked and would be from different vehicles.
So, all 3 modules have their own "unlocking" algorithms. And both ECU and PIM can be "Reset" to clear any previous security link. It seems the BCM does not have a reset procedure.

Iv attempted to do a reset on the PIM, although Im stuck on a screen saying "security wait time" which permanently says 2:40:00.. I left it for a few hours and it never changed so Im unsure whats happening there. So I cant actually reset the PIM as Im stuck on this stupid screen! Im going to try simulate the PIM response and see if I cant get past the stupid screen and log the process. Im thinking it will simply be unlocking and then sending a special command including the security number.

Iv also found a retarded Tech2win bug... I have tis access and it have been security unlocked, but noooooooo, the stupid tech2 doesnt believe it has i! Yet I can code a stupid key or access other security requiring options "grr". Will need to try te old tech2 out and see if that moves forward.

If anyones interested, let me know. Seems this relink/reset stuff is kept well under wraps. Probably because theres a bit of a trick to get the stupid thing working. I know a Holden here in Perth epically failed at installing a second hand VZ V6 ecu into a calais for a client I was working with, they couldnt reset the ecu and could never get it to security link. They ended up installing a new ECU for free as they completely mucked up the car security.

I was doing an E38 the other day and couldn't get it to relearn even though it appears to work from others reports. I didn't have hours to spend trying different things at the time tho so it still on the cards haha.

Yeah its odd, I left it for a good 4hours. And nothing!. Even left it over night and it didnt change, and neither did the "attempts count". I didnt even know Id attempted anything!
Not sure. Ill try again today, will leave it running until midday and see if I cant get past that menu. If not.. its time to rip out the AVT and aldl cable for a bit of reverse engineering action

Im hoping that most (At least some?) of the stuff I figure from the VZ V6 can be applied to the other PIM's. Just need to monitor both ALDL and CAN at the same time to see what happens between BCM,PIM and ECU.

I think BCM and ECU code the BCM security key to each other. And PIM and ECU code the "PIM security key" to each other. That way the PIM is kinda like the master key holder.. probably why its security is alot more harsh.

I had someone not long ago say they used a program to bruteforce the PIM key... but... that doesnt seem possible if the count doubles on each failed attempt.
