The Val

Post by VL400 »

Its not my ride but a close friends car, did a delco conversion on it a few years back and has been my test bed for new code and trying different things.

Its a 360 chrysler V8, stock crank rods and pistons, small cam, ported heads, 4 barrel holly intake with an adapter for a pair of ford F150 throttle bodies. Has a powerglide trans with trans brake and 9" full floater rear end. Runs around 11.70 on the quarter.

The delco gets an input from the trans brake and retards timing and drops the rev-limit to 5k RPM. I use timing to control launch RPM but the RPM limit at 5k is for safety in case it flares.

Anyway here are some pics....

yeah raced it at a friday night meet, but due to it being an ANDRA licensed race car and me having no ANDRA license was only allowed to go 12.00 or slower - but i can take a street car down there and do an 11.00 with no roll cage or 5 point harness...go figure!

We are not using one, idle is just set manually. If the current setup ends up being restrictive on the new motor we will change to something with iac. For now its happy idling at 1200ish RPM

This is my greatest hurdle i need to supply something like 1000cfm and am unsure how to supply it and stay compatible with the delco. I have thought of a custom elbow to dual v8 65mm throttle bodies this should become close to the target and use 1 iac this will have the added benefit of increasing plenum area as the carby style manifold is quite small compared to efi styles. What is your plan B if current setup is a restriction?

what about something like this ?

http://www.crdengineering.com.au/products.asp

we just put one of these on my mates VS V8 ... has commodore TPS and IAC on it and has fittings for vacuum ports etc

you can get them in 750 and 1000cfm apparently.

obviously requires you having the square bore manifold to suit but other than that they are a good thing!

holley Also makes one very much the same.

did you get good results witht that set up? was unsure weather to increase plenum area.

maybe if i run a spacer underneath that would be a good compramise. 8-)

yeah a 1 or 2 inch spacer would increase the plenum a fair bit.

the TB seems to be alright ... really haven't got that far with the tuning but the iac and tps all seem to work as they should and it looks like a great bit of gear ... also my mate needs to remove his 2 1/4 inch cat converter before i reckon we'll see to much performance from his motor!
