HELP.... need tune for my VS 355 manual

Post by krazy16 »

Hi guys, First time on here.. i've bought VS 355 manual ute, hasnt had its first service yet or tune.. also noticed today that its got a odd computer in it...

SERVICE NO. 01227808 5.0L AUT EFI-4

I dont have the full specs on it unfortunately, all i know is that its a mild stroker kit.
Do i need a VS computer?
Do i need to get it on a dyno tune or can i send the computer to someone to tune it up?

Any help would be great!! And i'm in Melbourne...

Cheers

Well thats the good ole '808. Its probably/hopefully got 12P http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=356 on it (or something similar, which might be harder to work with), and if someone has done that conversion they have probably/hopefully tuned it to suite. You do have some kind of MAP tune on there. I'd be inclined to see how it goes. It might be excellent as is.

I'm not to confident that it would have some sort of tune to suit, as the guy i got it off never got around to getting a tune done after the build..
Is it ok to keep this computer and get someone to tune it to what i need? or what so i do?

Yes, that computer can run the engine. VS V8 Manual was the last to still use an '808 type ecm (and the only VS variant). The computer is not original though as the 808 does not have high speed comms and thus you wont get anything out of the ALDL port and also vats cant work.

If its not running well, and you have the cash a dyno tune from a reputable tuner will give you the best outcome.

Mail order tunes will be reasonable at best, and chances are they wont be at best. If you cant justify the dyno at least find someone that will get you to drive the car and email logs, and they tweak the tune and send back to you. And are prepared to go through that procedure a couple of times. To do that you will probably need http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=36135 and http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=3612

For a dyno tune they would either install that gear and leave it in your car, or they'd use their gear then just put the tune on a regular memcal and leave that with you. You'd save some money going this way, if you intended to just drive it and not modify it again.
