Different '424' pcm's

Post by nutbag355 »

Ok guys so I've got myself these two little gems and plan on fitting a nvram to the 5lt pcm (which is out of my VR clubby) and set it up for rt tuning. the 3.8l pcm came out of an vs ss I bought as a doner car (car wasn't running when I bought it and can't be run) My question is, is this a likely thing that it was modified and used on the ss or is it more likely someone has done a swap at some point? Also CAN it be used to run a v8? As you can see I have opened both up to cross reference chip sets and both are different.
I have next to no knowledge of the inner workings of pcm's or more to the point what means what.

Cheers

The pcm for vr v6 and vr/vs v8 are the same. As long as someone has put the correct memcal or burnt the correct tune on the right memcal( netres must be correct) it will be fine regardless of the stickers.
What for letter code is on the silver sticker that you can see through the blue cover on the memcal that come out of the v6 one?

Cheers for the quick reply, I vaguely remember someone telling me a few years ago they are interchangeable so long as the tune is suited as you have said but that was all hear say so wanted to confirm it. Here is the v6 memcal

Ok cool. That one is a v8 code so providing the sticker is original you have A standard series2 5.0.

Ok cool in that case I'll modify the v6 pcm and keep the hsv pcm all original and put it aside as a spare. Cheers mate

As long as you understand that the HSV memcal more than likely has a knock board in the memcal and your tune without this needs to be considered.

The memcal in the hsv pcm isn't the original so unsure if it even has one in it either. Car has been refitted with a memcal from "the Brock shop" along with a small cam upgrade (before I purchased the car).

Going off the pics you posted the pcm on the right looks like it's fitted with the knock board still

For Y1 the top pcm uses lo profile crystal , the bottom pcm has a std profile crystal
