GM Can to ALDL
Re: GM Can to ALDL
What sets off the alarm bells is after a few messages of him banging on about how it works but cannot provide one single shred of info other than 'it's just a loom', as soon as I agree to try and buy one, suddenly he can't do it. Usually when this happens it because the person can't do it, just what I've experienced in the past, could be wrong. When he's the only person that I have spoken to out of a whole range of people that specialise in this type of thing that I have asked to do it, he's the only one that says he can do it, but then when go to engage his services suddenly he can't.
I am happy to swap the E38 for E67, however he wasn't interested in providing any options or even the slightest detail on what he could offer to fix it other than it needs a 'full loom', just that he could do it but then can't when I asked to go ahead. So I don't think it's worth wasting anymore time with him.
I've tried different OS's and different ECU's, I've got 3 VF's (E38) and a VE (E67) that I've experimented with the PIM/cluster and the PIM doesn't seem to pickup anything from either of them. The only one it works with is my other VZ 6L crewman which is also E38 (but obviously this already comes factory with a similar PIM).
I guess my next step is I'll see if I can find the oldest E67 VE software with 6L80 since the VZ OS never came with it and see if that works as at a guess this would probably have a chance at being closer to VZ than the VF OS is.
Temporarily I made up a little adapter loom and have a VY cluster in it so I can have a fuel gauge at least and I only have oil pressure fault, check engine and no temp gauge now with the VY cluster.
If I don't have any success with trying the VE OS, I'll go back to working on my little conversion unit, so far I can send data on the ALDL to make the cluster do what I want, now I just need to pickup the PID's off the GMLAN and make it 'rebroadcast them ALDL'.
Thanks

Re: GM Can to ALDL
from my own experimenting. the 2006 vz e38 & 2006 ve ecu software is compatible to flash between the 2 on the same ecu. but there is a change in the underlying os code. most likely in the system segment area that we either need to switch on or copy across from the ve/t43 to vz/t42 combo. things like talk to pim or bcm etc. there may even be more to it.
you then need to use a 07-08 tcm os to communicate to ecu. i sold the vz 6lt calais that i was going to experiment this shit on & i can't be bothered swapping the trans in my vy ute to work out the solution for no benefit/gain to say i worked it out. lol.
i can decompile the ecu code & based on referenced calibration locations following call points, but im no genius to fully work it out.

This thread is for VPW, but the same theories might apply to the e38, though there is a lot to figure out. viewtopic.php?f=42&t=7806&hilit=cluster ... 10#p119515

I wonder if its running 2 ECU's?...
According to chemistry, alcohol is a solution...

Now thats a good theory! Didnt think of that.Gareth wrote:I wonder if its running 2 ECU's?...

Re: GM Can to ALDL
Interesting, that looks like two computers, an LS1 computer and a E67, unless I'm looking at that wrong, the loom also looks like it has the plugs on it for both computers, there's a VF BCM there and another module on the lift can't zoom in enough to read it.
I got onto a bloke near Newcastle who is much more forthcoming and not arrogant like the other bloke and does CAN conversions for LS motors into other cars, so I've sent him a BCM, PIM and Cluster, sounds promising. Will let you know how it goes.

Im still trying to get something set-up in my VX to allow an aftermarket PCM to communicate with a CCM/BCM via can.

Im not a big fan of off site images as one day the other site goes down and the links break. So I went digging and found the original image which i'll archive here.

Looks like the factory PIM module.ben_att wrote:Interesting, that looks like two computers, an LS1 computer and a E67, unless I'm looking at that wrong, the loom also looks like it has the plugs on it for both computers, there's a VF BCM there and another module on the lift can't zoom in enough to read it.
