VN - VS Level 3 Cluster Trip LCD's

Anyone thought about starting to look at a way to replace the lcd's in these clusters? A lot are dead now days and they are specific even to the placement, left, middle, right lcd's can only be used in that spot.

Ive looked at the board and it's driven by a 80C51B Processor. The 3 LCD's have their own PCF2100T LCD Drivers.

I did look at the datasheet for the PCF2100 and it uses CBUS data which ive never heard of, it's spits out garbage on a 9600 baud serial line so im guessing there's a different clock and length setup with CBUS, i dont even know what speed it runs at.

That's about where im at.

From what i understand the PCF2100 is a parallel lcd driver? So it's like 7 segment displays i think? So one pin would control for example the ODO to light up, another pin would control the L/100 to light up, then the digits like a normal segment displays. So that makes the LCD specific to the application. If you found the same lcd's with the contacts at the right spacing you could prob get the digits to work but you wont have the ODO etc wording.

So in my mind the only way to go about it is to intercept the cbus data with a micro and display it on another lcd that can display it however you like.

Im not up enough with it but id image like an Arduino where you read high and low on the inputs to decode the data.

I found this thread, the guy is using the arduino to send the PCF2100 the data to drive the Segment displays. So just need to reverse it and read the cbus data

I know a gentle man who still does instrument repairs. Hes semi retired I'll hit him up and see what he's doing with them.

Surely there would be LCD manufacturing services for simple small batch jobs like this? There are for EL displays.

I'm glad my fav dash is the level 2, I dislike the style of the level 3 personally, so that's problem solved for me

What about retro fitting oled or something readily available/manufacture?
