Wow what a project. It makes me feel better about the task I have ahead of me with my GT. Keep up the good work, and the photos.

Hi guys...can I make a question to the experts? Are the parts of the Bellett Sedan like suspension, gearbox and brake system the same and compatible with the Bellett GT? Thanks, regards

Here is the comparison between sedan and GT in brief Rear brakes...identical Front brakes....disc and caliper for GT, drums for sedan Suspension swing arms...identical Rear transverse leaf spring...identical Front sway bar....GT is a bit stiffer and 2mm bigger in diameter I think Springs....GT springs are stiffer. Shock absorbers...identical....Australian HQ Holden fit. Gearbox...both 4 speed. GT has closer ratios and has a remote selector box Mounted on top of the gearbox. Because of this handy interchangeability, you could easily use all bellett sedan parts to complete your epic rebuild on your GT as GT front brakes, springs and gearbox are so rare. You would just have to cut a hole in the tunnel to fit a direct selector for a sedan gearbox. Keep checking the yahoo Japan auctions for used suspension parts as belletts still get dismantled there and parts sold online...2 problems for you is the translation issue and an import agent to Get the parts to your country plus high freight costs. I hope this helps..... Lewis.

Rear brake internals are the same. Drums themselves are different. GT alloy tinned, sedan cast iron normal. Correct. GT sway bar is 2mm bigger. Mounts are the same and are the downfall of the sway bar arrangement on all Belletts.... Unless modified Using a sedan gearbox will also mean you can't use the GT centre console and heater controls if u use a sedan shifter as well, so you'll need a sedan heater control panel. Oh, and the radio will have to be moved, but in a GT, that area is used by the 3 centre gauges.

Is your disc brake conversion available Brett? Might be a better option than resorting to sedan drums in the short term...probably in the long term too, as you can get parts!

I haven´t visited here for a long time... That looks like a very good project if we look it from Finland. Our GT projects have been so rusted away.... that they nearly have not been.. And it´s also mostly because they were in rally use here. I have restored one GT and one 2d Sport and with both projects it was eassily to take a 4b Bellett and put the GT or Sport parts to it. Sport was of course easier, because you didn´t have to change the roof, only put the doors and B-pilar and rear fender from the sport. When I made my GT I welded the GT roof to 4d Bellett, put GT doors and B-pilar and made the rear fender from 4d fender and from 4d door. I woud say that the GT roof is easy to put to a 4d Bellett body. I even didn´t put the disk brakes to my Sport. I had to make these cars this way, because for example from that Sport I found and bought only the doors, rear fenders with the pilar, rear side windows, that piece of metal where the body number was and the papers. If someone makes the GT roof from a fibreglass, I can make a Bellett GT... The doors can also be made from 4d Bellett doors.
With both projects I had a good running and registered Bellett 4d for the changing process. And after some years I got a 2-liter 175hp (tuned in Australia) twincam under the hood of my GT. Yes, from Australia. If I remember right I bought 7 DOHC engines, 2 x 1,8-liters and 5 x 2-liters and 5 speed gearboxes to them, from Australia Barry Hughan to me and our club in the early 90´s. After that I have bought one 2-liter from New Zealand and one 1,6 twincam from Australia.
So, don´t worry. Make a GT!
Antti

I believe that the most import thing to find now is the headlight trims, because I have the front grille but the trims are missing

As soon as I saw them I remembered those old pommy cars having a similar looking headlight trim. Used to be a quite a few around when I was a kid. Hopefully the parts are still easier to find than GT Bellett bits!

I have both types, the Bellett ones are pressed alloy and tend to get banged up a bit but the Austin ones are cast then chromed. The Austin ones ar a bit deeper too and in my opinion look better, much better quality but totally different mounting. I am actually using the Austin ones on my GT instead of the original Isuzu ones (which are a bit beat up anyway)
