Wow you guys dont muck about. Straight into the body work as soon as he is off the trailer. I am sure Pombellett will appreciate all the work already done.
Looking forward to following the continuing story of Rolie travels and re build.

Thanks for showing Gt Orphanage.
What a fantastic export idea, I'm sure the poms will treasure it, just don't smuggle any @#$%#@@ cricket bats away in it.
I think we're getting the raw end of the deal - we send them brilliant little Belletts complete with spares and they only ever sent us...... take your pick!!!

I'm back, Rolie should be half way to the UK by now, I have a few questions for you engine heads out there.......I think I can lay my hands on a 1600 OHC G161ss engine in Europe, can anyone tell me whether these were a decent unit, if they had any inherent problems and whether Rolie will accept this unit without much fuss? GT Orph tells me the sump may need altering but any more info would be greatly appreciated.

We've now got to the dreaded stage of paperwork for Rolie's importation. I can save a whole load of tax money if I can persuade customs that he's a vehicle of "significant historic interest". So I'm after a bit of info. Can someone have an educated guess as to how many 1500 Sedans like Rolie were produced? And more importantly, a guess at how many are surviving worldwide? I know this is a trickier question, but I reckon the bulk of them are in Australia and maybe NZ so I reckon you guys are in the best position to guess

PR91 is the man to talk to. PM him and ask the question.
I know of one or two in Adelaide but over all it is the rarest sedan... Are there any of them in Sweden? The rally history over there might work in your favour?

R. hate to burst the bubble R, but the tear drop isn't the rarest... the strip tailight model like yours is. most common (if a bellett is common now....) is the square tailight, like my race car. then the tear drop. then the strip. numbers wise.... my records show i've been in contact with about 30 tear drop sedans over the years (as in, i've seen enough of to get details for a data base from), and of those, I can account for only 12 left. of course that number would be higher with what actually still exists in australia, but i just can't see that being even as high as 50, which ain't many.

Really? There you go. I seem to see a lot more with the strip tail lights around the traps Oh well, I'm happy to have a 'rare' vehicle Cheers, R.

R, is a case of simple maths too.
the bellett hit oz in august 64, and the most successful sales years for the bellett here were 1965 & 1966. 1965 saw 3,580 cars imported, and 1966 saw 2,129. ok, seeing as the GT didn't arrive here until 1966, which is when the square tailight version also went on sale, that means that the best sales year, 1965, and also the cars sold in late 1964, were all tear drop sedans. the square tailight cars sold from early 1966 till very late 1968, and heaps were sold, but i have no further sales numbers past 1966.... but the time frame and sheer number of cars still around show these are most 'common'. the fact that the strip tailight cars didn't hit here until late 1968 (as your car shows), and with bellett sales stopping in early 1970 (some say late 1969, but near enuf....), means that more than 3,580 strip versions would have needed to be sold in less than a year.... and we know that never happened as 1965 was the best sales year. yes, i don't have any sales numbers for 1969, but as it's well known that the bellett was removed from sale in 1969-1970 due to falling sales numbers, so that, and also the cars left today show that there just were never as many sold as in early years. these days, a particular extensive bellett collection i can think includes a few tear drops, some squares, but not 1 strip.... and then adding my collection of cars, and that of another owner who has all 3 versions only makes the total strip value equal 2.... seriously! i can only think of about 10 strip cars that i've ever been in contact with.... and obviously the number left today is less than that.
hope this helps.
