Hi guys,

I know some of you had problems with the catchpa business which has hopefully sorted itself out (eg you don't have to log in every time if you have 'keep me logged in' ticked). Sometimes when our host does some kind of upgrade you may face it again, but this should be few and far between.

Today I went thru a list of about 20 usernames of people trying to join the forum. Many of them look dodgy from the outset and I just decline them membership. Some look like a bit of a grey area and today I took a punt and allowed two through that I wasn't 100% sure about.

As it turned out, we've garnered two new members (Munno from QLD and Exige92 from NZ) who are genuine enthusiasts and NOT spambots.

If you hear on the grapevine that a genuine Bellett/Isuzu enthusiast has been declined membership to the forum, email/PM/ring me and let me know. The purpose of this site was not to be exclusionist to Bellett people regardless of who or where they are!!!

On the other hand, if by some chance a spammer does get through and posts garbage or porno, please don't go off-chops - just let me or one of the other moderators know and we'll get onto it.

So far this has NOT been a problem, but the rule of thumb dictates that I'll slip up at some stage.

Anyway, so far so good!

Cheers guys! Happy BELLETTING!

Dave

Thanks Dave, you guys are keeping it squeaky-clean these days.
I have only had to use the captcha thingy once & it was instant.
Cheers, Matt.

it sure is.

for normal users of bellett.net, please understand that this system of verification will stay.
and for a very simple reason....
since our latest genuine user, "driver", was accepted on 16/6 (with today being 29/6), i have counted 21.... yes 21.... more spam account sign up attempts. that in just 13 days, so it isn't hard to imagine how many we have had since this system began.
without the current system, we'd be inundated with porn and god-knows what else by these scum everyday, and us admins would have no life outside of the forum due to the constant need of cleaning things up.... and while i enjoy my time on here like everyone else, i have far better things to do than be a slave to it.

cheers!

Again Guys, you are doing a great job.
Pity they would not leave us alone, dickheads!!
You would think they would find another interest than annoying clean living people!
Keep up the great work.

and the fun continue's lad's and lass's....

my last post in this thread states 21 spammers blocked in 13 days....
well in just the last 4 days, there's been a spate of them....
23 to be exact! or near enuf to an average of 6 per day.

so the verification system works, and it stays in place, as it's always better to stop them before they get in the door than to try to remove them while the door is wide open as there seems to be no end to what these scum will try to push their BS.

enjoy GENUINE bellett.net users!

quick update....
we still get an average of 6-7 new "member" (read: bloody spammers....) applications PER DAY!
my email inbox (we admins get an email for each and every application to verify or deny....) is chock a block full of un-opened "user application"s for bellett.net.
over 1,000 of them to be honest, and i was opening them for the first while....
so it's obvious the verfication system will stay as is, as it works, because the alternative that over 1,000 spammers would have done just doesn't bear thinking about!

That sounds tedious PR91, but not surprising. Again, thanks for the great work you guys are doing. B' net has been rather smooth of late and certainly enjoyable (without added extras).

Cheers, B

Further to Brett's info there, I was deleting about 5-10 per day, usually when I had a free moment at work.

I'm on extended leave at the moment and Junior Carey is keeping me well busy!!!!

Anyway, I had 5 minutes to myself and thought I'd fix up those that have come thru in the last 5 or so weeks since I left work....

I think I just deleted about 150 requests! Many thanks to Brett and/or Ross who may have been activating those that looked legitimate. If there were any legit ones in there that got caught up in that slash and burn, well then so be it!

Sorry about the delay in upkeep and my lack of attention to the site in the last few weeks (and prior; work wasn't helping either).

Cheers,

Dave
