I'm wondering if we should ban all people trying to access via GMAIL, as while it has many legitimate users, many of the spammers are using GMAIL accounts.

Banning all log-ins using GMAIL might wipe off a few of them!

Let me know!

Cheers,

Dave

I use gmail for verification, in fact I use it for heaps of things because I get far less sp**m and it's much, much more user friendly to access (than my ISP's email system) when I'm away from home. I even use it at work to send/receive large files because the firewall on our system spits the dummy

When trying to login his time I got told I had exceeded the number of attempts on the very first try (even though I'm sure I didn't make an error in my login/password combo) and I needed to complete that Captcha thing. Whethere it's my eyes I don't know but that must be one of the hardest of those things to actually read. there was one 'character' (at least I think it was) which looked more like a heart shape than any letter or number. I didn't have one of them on my keyboard so I reset my password.

I run two Yahoogroups, and I vet every application to join before I approve it (so do the moderators of the Hillmancars group which has over 400 members). It takes a couple of minutes but we keep the pests out. If the applicant' name or ID looks non-car related I do a quick google search on it - I have found and rejected several sp**mmers trying to get in.

Cheers, Vic

I think our provider runs our email through a Gmail route, even though ours is not a Gmail address.
Gmail seems to be preferred by some of my country area friends.
Cheers.

No worries, so we won't explore the possibility of banning Gmailers!

I didn't want to go down the path of having to vet off every single applicant to wanted to join. The reason being is that some Bellett people may be sailing through the internet and come across our site, join and immediately start posting.

The need to vet off people means that people breezing through might look to join, but then never come back. Not a big issue if we don't want them, but if they are Bellettheads and not completely up to scratch with computers, they may not find us again.

We'll see how we keep travelling; for the time being smashing them on an ongoing basis seems to be working, albeit not overly well!

Cheers,

Dave
