Super Charging G161 engine in my Luv

Hi guys
I want to super charge the G161 in my Chevy luv using an AMR500 Super charger and a DCOE 45mm side draft weber.
Has anyone got experience turbo charging or super charging these engines?
I only want to run low boost (The AMR500 with 500cc of volume, running on a 1600cc engine on a 2:1 pulley should see around 8psi boost max depending on how efficent the setup is)
If anyone has an wisdom or insight I would be glad to hear it.

Its not the gemini engine in Anthirons luv. Same basic engine as the florian (with minor differences!)

Rarely drink....... But do have access to TIG, MIG, Lathe, Mill, Steel and alloy stock, any tool necessary and a place close by that sells Weber jets. I have other cars to drive but am hoping to find someone to help with approximate jetting and possibly a supplier for pulley's so I can minimize the time the Ute is off the road. Edit: Don't want to make stupid power or blow the motor apart. Just want a bit more poke and to be able to say I have a supercharged Luv

Well for starters Supercharging is not same as turbo charging 8 lb super is approx equal 14 lb turbo Far harder on bottom end With 8 lb and no intercooler inlet temps high Need to lower compression to approx 7.5:1 Forged pistons Pref forged rods Pref sleeved block for starters ? Not enough room to use side draft.. Perhaps down draft like me That's just inside the engine Then there is all the issues with fuel pressures Rising rate regulator definitely for blow thru applications Surge tank Remapped ignition Huge clutch to handle torque U basically have to upgrade everything J

hmm.
I have seen people run the AMR500's on 1600cc Volkswagen engines with stock internals and clutch without intercooler and no issues?
I think I can make the side draft work with a custom manifold. The AMR is a pretty small unit if I run it upright and a 90 degree manifold It might fit ok. Already have a regulated electric pump so fuel shouldn't be too hard.
I was hoping the suck through setup would help keep intake temps a little lower??
Perhaps I need to look at lower boost. Not so hard to turn up some different sized pulleys.

Draw thru = no intercooler Aim for max 5 lb Reason not same as turbo is with turbo have back pressure from turbine (less so with supercharger so true boost as free exhaust) Also you put at least double the load through the bottom end as you drive the compressor from the crank to generate the positive net gain of acceleration otherwise known as torque. ( so turbos are more efficient ) With draw thru research 2 inch SU Can flow a lot of fuel and air without taking up heaps of room Fuel pressure has to vary to match boost on blow through anyway. Having only a big pump will flood carby ? Especially down draft webers > 5psi
If you don't lower your compression it will go bye bye very quickly as pre detonates and pings to destruction very quickly J

Would rather not use an SU as I already have a 45 DCOE sitting around.

It would be far easier and precise to run a full efi system such as a motec M400. No need for rising rate fuel regulators. Jet with 1000cc injectors and then there is no top end limitation on duty cycle. You can also control timing very closely to avoid that horrible ping (or go with a knock sensor, even better). You can run many other gadgets off the efi as needed such as Lambda sensor, oil pressure, air temps pre and post intercooler, etc. It's a whole new world if you can get your head around it (I'm still learning). Machining the injectors into a manufactured or modified manifold shouldn't be too hard if you have access to the equipment you have mentioned. If you limit your boost (power output) then the internals "should" be okay. Push too hard then the weak link in the chain WILL break.
Love belletts. Love supercharging. Turbos suck. Watching your progress.

Love belletts. Love supercharging. Turbos suck. Watching your progress. I know you are right but I would rather stay away from fuel injection. Want to keep the engine bay as tidy and simple as possible and don't want to modernize it too much. Its at the parts collection stage currently. I have the DCOE and am looking at a few Superchargers on ebay currently. My Cortina is off the road for a couple of weeks for new brakes, adjustable strut tops and a few other little things. Once I have that back to drive I will be able to get started on the Luv.
