Hi All,
My G161 in the Chev Luv is tiring these days. Low oil pressure at idle when hot is the main reason for this thought and thread. I have the idle set at 900- 950RPM currently which is keeping the oil light from flickering at idle.
I am fairly certain that the bottom end has never been opened up before and so I am thinking excessive bearing wear is the cause. I have not had the engine apart and nor have I driven another G161 to know whether it is down on power etc but it doesnt blow too much smoke and runs pretty well for the old simple motor it is.
Basically I don't know where to begin as far as a rebuild goes. I haven't even been able to find a VRS kit for this engine! What I do know is that it is a 5 bearing G161 motor with an iron head.
If I was to want to do a bottom end rebuild, what do I do for crank and rod bearings? Do the G161Z pistons and rings fit and do they give the same compression? (The Luv Spec engine has 8.2:1 compression apparently) What about Cam bearings, rear main seal etc? Also are there any wierd and wacky specialty tools needed?
If anyone has a list of compatible parts for the motor that would be fantastic!
