Good evening ladies and gentlemen, I've got a quick question for you all. (I mean slow and long winded) Does anyone know off the top of their heads (or have I missed a previous thread) the type &/or part# for uni joints for a Bellett sedan? As a number of members know the universal joints in my '65 "donkey" have been knackered since before Coona 2010. A trip down the highway is like driving through the sound barrier in slow motion and I really need to sort it out before something goes horribly wrong. I haven't pulled them out as yet but I do have about 3mm of rattle and slop in all directions and it's time to fix - interestingly enough too is that I started getting bit of a wierd knock in the rear whilst cornering and apon checking the rear drive shafts I found the rear drivers side holding by 1 bolt sort of tightened, 1 not even done up finger tight and 2 missing. Now rectified. No doubt some of the vibration was coming from this issue but as my play time under the car ended there fixing that I thought I would put the part number game on the board. This way rather then loosing another day pulling to pieces and not putting back together, with a little guidence from the Bellett family I'm hoping to source the parts then get it done in the 1 day, as little time wasted as possible that could be spent cruising the Sandgate foreshore and sharing some beautiful Bellett heritage with the locals. (by beautiful I mean crusty green - rat style) Long winded story I know so to put it simply....... Could someone please tell me what universal joints suit the Bellett sedan? Stickman |

all holden ones actually. i use HQ V8 ones. slightly thicker in the "X" area, but thats on the race car. 6 cyl jobbies are fine in everyday belletts. |

Your all champions! Thanks for the help Josh, Brett, Geoff & Chris. I'll get some ordered tomorrow and should be ready to fit on the weekend if I get the chance. Although knowing my local Jeays Aussie Auto, they'll likely have them on the shelf. Their pretty good like that. G. |

Hi guys, Just a quick update on the green 'Donkey'. I pulled the tailshaft to do the uni's on Saturday and the front has been changed at some stage with a newer greasable one but it has been flogged out a bit as the rear (still orig) has siezed in one direction and has worn half way through the other causing a huge amount of extra load on the front. Can't believe it hadn't failed in a catastrophic way up till now. It's so badly damaged I couldn't get the bugger out. Not to fear, I've past it on to a mate who used to balance make & tailshafts and he's getting it sorted and balanced for me as the rear yoke has to be replaced due to damage from the uni. Darren reckons he's never in 20 years working with them has he seen a uni joint hold on long enough to destroy a yoke, I think that's cool. My next concern though is what has all that floging around done to diff seal and beyond? No apparent leaks but may get that checked out next. G |
