Hey guys,

Lately in my bellett the charge light on the dash has been flickering and the voltage regulator makes a ticking noise every so often. I still think it is charging but do not have a multimeter to check.

Am I right in assuming the alternator is on its way out?

Do the bellett alternators have removable diode packs and are these likely to be the problem?

Thanks :)

Hi Barney,

Weirdly enough mines started doing the same thing. Ever since the All Japan Day the little red 'C' comes on at a low idle and doesn't go off until I rev it a bit. I checked with a multimeter when it was off and it is still charging but not as strongly as I'd like!

Sorry I can't add any extra info but if anyone does have anything on this it would be great!

Cheers,
Ross.

Hi Barney, I have not had a Bellett altenator apart and my advice would be to ditch it and go with a modern altenator with internal voltage regulator. We all know that you are not going to drive a decent set of Amps and Sub Woofers using a 45 year old altenator

I would not be pulling apart the altenator until I had put a multimetre over the charging system. It might also be worth checking the contacts in the voltage regulator.

If you need the charging system section out of the manual pm me your e-mail address and I will send it to you. It will be to big to post on here.

Cheers 65bellett.

I took the alternator out over the long weekend an gave it a freshen up, stole dads multimeter and it now appears to be charging :)

Next Question!

Do belletts share engine mounts with any other cars? My ones are absolute jelly!

I had both my engine mounts refurbished by a company many years ago - I will look through my Bellett file and see if I can find the receipt.

Try your Holden dealer with this number. 9532151220 should be GT engine mount. No different in shape but slighty firmer. You may have to give them a push. If nonplused about it Patterson Cheney in Keysborough in Vic have always been very helpful in getting stock out of GM's warehouse. Fast-air spares in QLD will help if you have part number.

How many different engine mounts are there? The engines range 1.5 liter, 1.6 liter OHV, 1.6 liter SOHC, 1.6 liter DOHC, and 1.8 liter SOHC. Or are the engine mounts the same for all of these engines?

As stupid as the question might have sounded, if there is one pattern for all of the years and engines used in the cars, it becomes a more persuasive argument to convince someone to make replacements if one pattern does fit all.

Two dashes, two windshields, two rear suspensions, two different types of brakes, two different front spindles, two different hoods, two different rear quarter panels for GT alone. A lot of these items are very uninviting because a manufacturer has to either choose which one they think will sell more, or accept the cost of making two or more patterns to cover all the various model variations.

Oh, and another engine (most common) was forgotten in all this !! 1.6 SOHV GT.....And yes, from what I gather some things are generic to "most" models.

Cheers guys,

B.

PS. was mis read as OHV, "pardon moi"
