Hi guys

I am wondering whether Gasket kits are available for the G161 engine and if so where are they available?

I also understand that the G161 isn't a performance unit but I am looking at fitting a DGEV Weber and am wondering if there are any bolt on extractors available before I have something Fabbed up?

Cheers

Nicko

The Last time I checked Burson (Motor Traders) used to list them for the Chev Luv.
But Getting them to confirm it was for a G161 and not a G161z was always a challenge.
G161 performance is relative, the GT Bellett has a G161 with twin and carbs extractors.
I know a few G161s are wearing webbers.
I few of the guys around have had or are making their own extractors, dont know how many would be willing to part with them!

Gricey you have PM

pa-man, Yeah I had a look at Bursons and Repco. The best I could find was a head gasket and oil filter. nothing else from the catalog was available anymore that they could order.

I was hoping there might be a secret squirrel supplier for everything else.

I have a mate who makes extractors, turbo manifolds and other Tig welded goodies as a side business. Always cool to have period accessories and equipment if available though!

The only genuine Extractors would be GT and I would say rocking horse poo would be easier to find than
someone willing to give up those!
We have used Auto Silicon for things like rocker cover and sump gaskets.
gt orphanage prob the one to PM about Manifold Gaskets, Extractor plates and possibly some others gaskets etc, just let him know what you are after.

Just remember tho kiddies.... A G161 is all dependant on what type it is, even in bellett form.
A Florian spec engine is the same as an early Luv one, which has a different head to a GT, as the manifold mounting are completely different.... So swapping them is not just a bolt off bolt on job. You need to make sure Flo/Luv engines get Flo/Luv manifolds, and GT's similarly need GT stuff.
Just a word of warning before you commit.

Ahhh

Thanks for the tip pr91

Looks like custom it is.

I take it that the bellett engine had a better flowing head?

i have been led to believe the luv head is cast iron and the florian head is alloy, i dont know if the ports are the same though? someone educate me if im wrong. i have a florian head here i can check the ports shape and size on. (may have to look at an early luv with the manifolds off to see if they are the same?

I think Daves Ratter is running the Luv style motor, dont know if he has ever had the manifold off??
Totally didnt think how different some of the manifold ports are??
The other option for gaskets is Dick Klinkhamer in Holland, wont be cheap but he may have them.
He is on this forum so you can PM him, also a couple of pages of his below

I got a G161 VRS kit from Sprint Auto Parts...so you should be able to get them pretty well anywhere. GT bits custom, of course. The head gasket looks pretty damn close to a GT, but of course, I haven't fitted it yet.

BTW, I'm up for a manifold gasket if anyone's planning on doing a run! Better start collecting bits for the inevitable.

Cheers,
Duane

You could write a book on this subject  The vrs kit is for the luv the manifold gasket should be right. They are opposite to gt round inlet square exhausts. Duane the head gasket will fit the gt. The Luv has 2 g161 engines before the over head cam. I have a later 1 here that has a rubber rear main seal and a hydraulic chain tensioner. Identical to a bellett engine. OPR91 has observed this also as we have had some light discussion on these engines.
PA man these engines will do your head in  every time you play with 1 something seems to be different. The florian engine for example I bought a florian vrs kit from dick it looked right until I realized the dowles were at the top and mine were at the bottom :( I punched the holes to suit all perfect the port holes were great :D but now only half the studs will fit  the others were half a hole out. With a few mods it was all good. Not a problem with Dicks product Isuzu had a change :?: Using a gt block was interesting as the florian sump has allowed for a drag link so now the gt oil pump does not mesh with the sump, the list went on. sedans have 3 bearing cam shafts gt has 5 the luv has 3 bearing but machined for 5. You need to be very aware when you start taking bits from a spare engines they look the same but they may not be :?: Twin cams have a few funny's also. Check and recheck

OMG Head has officially been done in!!
That's worse than I thought, My Luv could have one of two different engine configurations that were only available In a three year period!
Just thinking about it I would guess the changes came Between the 72 and 73 models as there were a few minor changes like the 72 had Wasp tail lights, where the 73/74 had larger tail lights and little Bumperettes! Just theorizing!!

Looks identical doesn't it!

I just found a Conversion Gasket set on ebay for a 74 Chev Luv with G161 so I've bought that. Just need a VRS kit now to have a full set!
