Post subject:  Paint Codes

I bought a Dulon/Dulux/Duco car paint color catalog on auction a while ago. The title is "3D Car Color Directory; A Comprehensive Guide to Colour Identification; N0. 11 Sept. 1976". Bellett is given its own page, not under a heading of "Isuzu", but Bellett is listed as the manufacturer. The information is as follows:

I had hoped this information would be useful in deciphering paint codes to mix paint. However, when I went to the Dupont paint store, they explained these were not paint codes in their system. More research revealed that Dupont and Duco were competitors in the paint business. Duco was based in Australia, and Dupont basically ran them out of the automotive paint business with stiff competition. Duco now sells only house paint. And none of the Duco paint codes were ever translated into Dupont mix recipes. So what promised to be a source for paint codes ended up as a wild goose chase.

If You check with Dulux. Some years ago they were good enough to place the Bellett paint codes in the FLEET listings. They did this so that they would not be lost. Whether they still have them there is an unknown but worth a try

If you have any contact information for Dulux, please share.

I can only find dulux.com and duluxpaints.com.
They have no link to an Australian website or headquarters on their website, and all divisions show only interior and exterior building paint. It appears all of their automotive paint information was lost when they closed that division.

Q. I thought Dulux used to make automotive and refinish paints but you don't have any on your website.

A. At one time Dulux Australia supplied a number of automotive paints for the manufacture of new vehicles, but this segment of the business was sold to PPG in 1997. Dulux now market a full range of Dulux AutoSpeed Refinish paints for the repair and repainting of vehicles. For more information on the Dulux AutoSpeed Refinish range, contact Dulux Refinish on 03 8368 7664, or the Dulux Refinish Customer Service department on 1800 810 114

International phone number would be +61 3 8368 7664

This PPG reference also led me to PPG automotive refinishes North America.:

Good luck!

Thanks for the research JT191

I really like the 1970 Adonis Yellow colour - obviously named after the Greek God for aesthetics and all things desirable.
I assume it was only available in sedans   ???

Listing is correct, but....

Checked my cars.
(Sedan) 66 code 0011: Mews White. Correct. Car still is. Fairly common.
(Sedan) 67 code 0092: Roman Red. Correct. Car was when I got it. Not now and to be changed again soon. Fairly common.
(GT) 68 code 0011: Mews White. Correct. Car was when I got it. Still white but different shade. Most common GT white, but most GT's weren't white.
(Sedan) 69 code 0017: Royal Blue (Metallic). Correct. Car still is. Rare as hell.

List is incomplete tho.
"Zwart Black" is not listed. Checked known factory black car, but label is missing....
Will dig thru paperwork to try and find the code.

Just found my listing charts.... One is dated May 22, 1967. Says it replaces chart issued Nov 1, 1964.
Still no Zwart Black, but imnot surprised. Was a special order only colour, and only 5 known that came here.

This chart does list the tinter numbers and quantities for 10 colours tho.....

I have a question for oz_toffa. I noticed you have a Roman Red 1965 Bellett.

I was wondering if you have had paint mixed up for yours as My mate at one of the local and the best spare parts stores here in Cessnock and I have spent hours trying to find the formula to mix the Isuzu Roman Red.

If you have a copy of the formula tgat you can share it would be much appreciated as I am trying to get my 1966 1/2ready for blue slip and Nationals.

Just a side note I am also trying to get my latest Bellett a 1967 ready as well. It is a very pale blue almost white.

Thank you
Fredojohn
