3,200,000 Yen for unrestored GT-R and restoration service

This is another auction listing on Yahoo Japan by Eagle Sayama / Isuzu Sports:

The reserve looks like 3,200,000 Yen.
$38,865.61 USD.
$38,469.18 AUD.

It is a white, 1969 Bellett GT-R (with black hood, stripes, tailgate).

The second and third photos are directly from the previous auction of the Orange (w/ Black) Bellett GT-R, which sold for 2,680,000 Yen ($33,035.44 US Dollars or 32,635.71 Australian Dollars).

The item description for this white car includes a few more items than the orange car.

But the really curious part is that this auction appears to be for the unrestored car and the restoration of the unrestored car. The car has not actually been restored yet. All the work listed has not been done yet. All the parts listed have not been installed yet.

I must be from another era. I've always thought that you have to have the item in hand, and in the condition it is to be sold in, before you can actually offer it for sale.
I guess this is "Welcome to the brave, new world of collectible cars".

Do you know the sad thing :(

this will probably end up as another orange car with Watanabe mags :(

It is rather interesting that they are selling the car and the restoration though :shock:

I'll second the sentiment that we could do without another rolling orange cliche.

But I've been trying to scrape together an extra $130 for a set of used Watanabes at Up Garage for the last six months, and the darn listing disappeared last week. If they end up on this car...

actually rod.... thats the going rate for one now. considering our GT's go for 15k now, that shows how much the market has moved.
also, one of the melbourne guys went to Japan in 2008, and personally inspected the only left hand drive GT-R ever built. it was still immaculate, and the asking price was over 50k aus.... and i'm not kidding. might sound expensive, but where else would u get one.....?

yeah but as jt said, I would have thought the finished product would have been worth that money, not an unrestored banger that comes with the promise of a restoration!

So what your saying (without being distrusting or unrespectful to "Eagle Sayama") is you'de want to see the finished product in the flesh before you hand over any money.

That would be like a gangster deal. Show them the siut case full of reddies and promise it when you can see the GTR fully resto'd.

Nah, go Farmers idea : Ship it downunder for a bit of rat treatment !?!

If someone is selling a mass produced item, and it's new, like an appliance, one picture and description for a bunch of listings works great, because they are all the same.
For a used car, especially when the car is not in the condition it will be sold in, it doesn't work that well. $30,000+, and the buyer is pretty much thinking "this is my dream car". Everybody's opinion of perfectly restored is a little different. Everybody's opinion of acceptable or desirable upgrade is different. One person might want the car exactly as it rolled out of the showroom. Another might want it in better than new condition. Another still might want modern upgrades. And everyone can disagree on the specifics of every detail.
I know more than a few unreasonable people who would fully and seriously expect a V12 engine under the hood, and all the interior trim and hardware color matched perfectly to their favorite, Chinese made, pink engine compartment wiring harness kit.

The whole situation is a setup for a big nightmare. All from the land of "No claim, no return", the phrase at the end of every Japanese auction that means you are buying it in the condition as presented, you accept all defects stated or unstated, and there will be no discussion of refund or your unhappiness with the transaction.

The only way they could justify this is if they have such an overwhelming belief that they are the absolute authority of what is correct and appropriate when it comes to Isuzu vehicles and their restoration, and the rest of the world will have to accept their opinion on the matter without question.
Good or not, that's too steep for me.

Strangely I've seen this before in the US with 356 Porsches... California I think JT, but might be elsewhere too.

I wonder if Eagle is copying the States or the other way around?

Anyway, for my 2c I'd really like pictures of the actual finished vehicle so that I am paying for what I'm getting, not paying for vapourware.... I think there is a word for this kind of thing...
