Attachment: 2008TimeMachine015_002s.jpg [ 77.91 KiB | Viewed 7307 times ] I ran across this photo on a sports racer board, and tracked it back to the blog of the photographer. This is an Isuzu Bellett R6 Spider, specifically the one now owned by Katsuyuki Racing Service (KRS) in Kamakura. It seems that Mr. Aoki drove all the way across the street from the KRS garage, conveniently located directly opposite from the main entrance to Fuji Speedway, and put the R6 Spider onto the track at this historic racing event last March. This is quite possibly the only high resolution color photo of this car, in motion, that exists. |

That is awesome. I would love to see the Bellett R6 Spider and the Toyota 7 battle it out in the Arena of Kitchen Stadium. Thanks for posting that important piece of Isuzu's history! |

kitchen stadium... i guess you watch sbs on a saturday night too!! the isuzu r7 would be the go dave. it uses a 5 litre chev v8, and was very similar to the full-on can-am cars of the day, like the mclaren's. i believe it still exists. the r6 uses the 1600 DOHC engine from a GT-R, and is similar in size to a lotus 23 type of car, so where it makes up in the corners it badly loses in the straights... awesome pic though. thanks jt191 for posting. |

The results I can find that have the R6 and R7 cars in the same event, show the R6 finishing higher than the R7 in 6 out of 9 event results. My guess was the weight penalty for the higher displacement. Also, the R6 was supposed to be an in house chassis design by Isuzu, while the R7 was a Lola T70 Mk.3B. Sort of like Mazda slapping a Ford V8 into a Lola chassis, it would be fast, but not very Mazda. Look carefully at the name on the side of the cockpit: "S. Asaoka". Not sure if it was Asaoka's actual car, or a tribute to him, but it likely was his car. The bigger mystery would be the 2000 Special/Spider 2000 Special. The chassis looks like a Lola T290. The engine is described: "enjin ha GM to kosuwa-su" and then "2l kosuwa-su*be-ga". |

The R6 was to come out to the last or 2nd last Canberra Nationals (ICCA) with another car. Not sure what the last minute stuff up was. |
