GT radiator hoses

Hi All. I know this should be under "HELP!" but more likely to be seen and answered front and centre.

Does anyone have part numbers or similar replacement for top and bottom radiator hoses for a GT Bellett PR91?

I've had non originals on it for about 5 years which are slightly larger inside diameter. Always had problems with weeping from the bottom clamp of the bottom hose. Went to pinch up the clamp after a water change earlier in the week and started pissing everywhere. So time for some new hoses and clamps before travelling to Albury, preferably ones closer to original.

Any info appreciated,

Bellett Club Vic had a lot of hoses but i think from memory now, all maybe gone. Brett might know. Somebody may know the p/n perhaps. But might be tough finding them these days

Probably not what you want to hear but I usually go down to Supercheap
Sit myself on the floor and compare the original hoses to their bin of disorganised hoses
I think commodore can be cut to suit as they have the smaller inner diameter

Thanks guys, pretty much what I was aiming to do if nothing else showed up. Also spoke to a friend who suggested Bursons Auto Parts who have racks of odd ball hoses, and same, pick through them until you find something close.

For the top I have used some model commodore hose, from the 3.8 buick motor. Its 'S' shaped, you cut it in half and get 2.
For the bottom I have used the ribbed flexi ones. Looks a bit daggy, but works. Supacheap have some of them sometimes.

Hi All.
PR20,90 & 91 top and bottom hoses are the same excluding G161S [SOHC].
Have used and have not had any problems in using the following hoses.
Top: Gates 05-0153. Suit top hose Holden. 6 cyl. 173. HQ/HJ 1971-76.Part No. 28122209.
Bottom: Gates 05-0458. Suit Toyota top hose. Hilux RN20/25. 11/75-7/78. Part No. 1657131023.
PR91 G161S [SOHC].
Top: Gates 05-0732. [Mackay CH1748]. Suit Holden Nova & Toyota Corolla AE90. Part No. 16571YA020.
Bottom: Gates 05-0304.[Mackay CH1142]. Suit Ford Escort 2.0l top. 1976-81. Part No. AKM5218.
Hoping that these numbers are of assistance.

PS. Make sure the outlets on the radiator are completely ROUND. No flat spots etc.
And no twists or kinks in hoses reducing flow.

Dave, you are legend. Your post should be put in "parts interchangable". You might be right, a tiny bend in the brass bottom ratiator outlet. How DO you fix that without removing the radiator if possible??

Actually, when i mean bend, it's a tiny flat spot on the underside of the bottom radiator outlet. Possibly when a reconditioner banged it on something when he did it about 5 years ago :|

Also, it might be how I tension the clamps. I'm old school which says if your nuts aren't tight, they're never tight enough :? Usually I pinch them up with a screw driver, then give them a few turns with an 8 mm spanner until they don't turn anymore. And then another half turn 10 minutes later when they have settled, but the muscles take over.. :geek: too much possibly??

The ones the BCCV had were sold out over 5 years ago, so you'll have to go with others as listed.

Too tight is never a good thing on radiator hoses bro.
Not only does it cut into them (will be even worse once they are under pressure with hot coolant) but you then magnify the risk of the hose clamp itself failing due to too much tension, have seen it happen many times with intercooler pipe clamps as they think they need double the tension for the pressure only to have them break at the worst moment.
You don't want that happening mid fang around town let alone mid road trip to Albury
The hose rubber needs that slightest bit of movement to expand and contract with the heat under the clamp so as not to create fatigue cracks around the pressure edge against the clamp

A man with your muscles only needs the tension of the screwdriver :)
....and use new clamps to be sure, quality ones, don't cheap out on the budget multi pack junk ones that won't hold a wet tissue down. Hose clamps are often thought of as an insignificant part but they are infact quite crucial.

I hear you good Sticko. I will no longer be tensioning the b'jesus out of the clamps. Yes definitely new clamps, and hoses with the correct internal diameter this time. I guess they need to fit very snug over the inlets/outlets.

I was going to suggest a steel tapered drift. The type they use to align large holes in equipment. The depth or length may be too much and might foul the the front of the lower tank. :o
You being handy with wood you may be able to spin up a drift that may do the job. :D

Last minute panic :o :evil: :roll: After spending 4 days upside down wondering why nothing worked to seal the leak, and a back which couldn't stand much more bending, I decided to pull the radiator out. Took 20 mins to do, should have done it days ago. Well looky here, i believe a fine crack around the solder from the flange to the radiator body....DAHH :oops: . Could have saved so much effing around. So it's off to a radiator joint tomorrow, yep cutting it a bit fine.......but I'll walk to Albury if I have to :? Better start walking now :lol:

Funny enough, there are a couple of flat spots on both top and bottom inlet/outlet which don't seem to be a problem. But will ask the radiator specialists this also.
