Hi Michelle,

What you have there is one of 5 known Wasps in SA! Actually there WERE five but I knew one went to the crusher... so then there were four... but now there are five again! Woo hoo!

I have a styleside (ute-back, not tray back) Wasp in straight but original (rusty-ish) going condition, two other members have Wasps in pieces and a couple own one up in the hills.

It was one of about 160 imported back in 1965, so they're pretty thin on the ground now. Although it's hard to see from the photo if it's got much rust or whatever, it's got all the parts at the front that are unique to a Wasp; the headlights surrounds, grille and front bumper is all different to that of a Bellett sedan, so that's good news!

If you can get it for around $500 you'll be doing OK.

Engines can be rebuilt (or replaced - it's the same as a Bellett motor), brakes, suspension and steering items are all pretty similar to the Chevrolet LUV aka Isuzu KB and as long as the unique parts are there (also the door frames, bench seat etc) pretty much anything else can be fixed or replaced!

How tall are you!? Make sure you sit in it first to make sure you fit! I bought mine sight unseen over the phone for $2500... and was in for a bit of a shock when I sat in it! But I really love it; I just don't drive it for more than an hour at a time. Doing the Bay to Birdwood in it this year.... that'll be interesting.

If you don't buy it, there's probably a few people who would line up to buy it so if you do bail, make sure you get the guy's info!

Here are some other Wasps for you to look at:

Hi All
The ute is complete, as far as i can tell, seat is still there just no cover or much stuffing, dash is cracked and sunburnt all original inside and motor, the motor still runs as i drove it out of the paddock up to a shed, went to have look at it today and can home with keys and rego papers so happy cant wait to do it up.

Nice score, Michelle. ;) I too have a wasp under resto. I was happy to give $500 for it, but with no motor or box or seat, but almost no rust as well. Vendor sold me an 1800 twin cam & 5 speed for it, and a mate gave me a seat. Only missing items now are badges, locking fuelcap & orig equip tail & reverse lights (all rare).
Great to see another Wasp saved - and so complete! :D Lucky, lucky girl! (they are rarer than G.T.'s)
Thanks for showing. Please stay in touch, & lets know any parts requests.
Matt.

Welcome Michelle.

You have done very well to find a Wasp in that condition so close to home.
I travelled over to Bearbong above Gilgandra in NSW to pick mine up from a local farmer! The road trip was great fun.
My involvement with Bellett's goes back over 26 years and have seen very few Wasp's even here in Adelaide where Martin Distributers were a very active dealer outlet.
Sure will be great to see it back on the road. The forum is a wealth of information and support.
Hope you enjoy the journey

Number was actually 122 Wasps.
One shipment only came here in 1965. They were both styleside ute and cab chassis, and I'm told that there were more cab chassis than stylesides, but as to the number of each... ??????????????????????
All were the same "Wasp Blue" in colour, and were all the KR20 version with the 1500 engine, although there's no actual history of the 1500 version by Isuzu, as they only advertised the KR10 1300 version.
The 122 Aussie Wasps took 3 years to sell, so that's why they never imported any more (My Wasp wasn't reg'd until early 1967 as a new car).

I'll have to put some pics of my Wasp (and the GT, the race sedan, the BBQ...) on here one day.
