Ryco part #'s.

Please note that these are all obsolete parts, so the only ones you'll probably find will be on the dusty shelves at the back... Brett has more part numbers to come for other filter manufacturers like Baldwin and Sakura.

However, it is recommended that if you do look for these Ryco parts, you may need to go to an oil specialist, farm machinery specialist (some filters are shared with massey ferguson tractors!) or a vintage car parts specialist.

Ryco oil filter
Bellett sedan & Bellett GT
Part# R2211P

Ryco fuel filter
Bellett sedan & Bellett GT
Part# R2224P

Ryco air filter
Bellett sedan 3-bearing motor only:

Bellett sedan 5-bearing motor only:
A74

Awesome! Thank PR91 Brett for this info.

Cheers,

Dave

Hi Guys, In the past I have used an oil filter that was used in the early Datsun Bluebird. This is not a great deal of help as these are also no longer produced by Ryco, but while you have got people criusing dusty shelves for old stock you may get lucky.

I will post the part number tonight.

OK, here goes...

With thanks to Doug from "One Stop Oil and Filters" in Main St., Lilydale, Vic.
He is THE man for this stuff, so see him if you need some products!!

First off... my advice is to CHECK these before you buy.
Also, if you happen to see any of the "better known" filter numbers (read: Ryco), grab them while you can, as they will disappear into history, and probably when you need one the most...

We're still on the trail of some more part numbers from different filter companies, so this is a preliminary list.

Bellett oil filter:
Ryco # R2211P. No longer made.
Baldwin # P174. Commonly available. Listed for Massey Ferguson tractors and Lister air compressors!! Is also listed under the brand name of "Hastings" for some unknown reason.
Fram # CH828PL1. Don't know if they are still made.
Nippon Micro # O-6718. Again, don't know if still made.
Fleetguard # LF566. Commonly available.
Sakura # O-1803. Commonly available.
Bare & Co # B7701. Good stock still available at some tractor parts supplies.

listed below were located on another website, so no further info is known:
Fram #'s CA820PL, CH7504.
Wix # 51302.
NAPA # 1302.
Vapormatic # VPD5001.

*EDIT 11/5/2012.
I've just found this info:
http://www.donaldsontoolbox.com.au/sear ... s/P550052/
follow the link, and you'll find 10 pages containing approx. 900 different (yes... 900!!) filters that this site claims to be the same as a Ryco R2211P, etc. for obvious space reasons, i'm not going to list them all here, so you'll have to use the link.
now, i'm NOT saying all of these are correct, and there's alot of brands there i've never heard of as this is an American site, but all the known filters listed above are shown in this list, so they may be worth a further look.

Bellett fuel filter:
Ryco # R2224P. No longer made.
We believe there is a geniune Nissan filter that fits this. Does any forum member know this part number??
Ryco # R2058P. No longer made.

Bellett 3 bearing air filter:
Ryco # A82. No longer made.
*if originality isn't a major issue for yourself, try a later 5 bearing Bellett air filter housing, then the A74 / AF911 listed below can be used.*

Bellett 5 bearing air filter:
Ryco # A74. Fairly commonly available.
Baldwin # AF911. Again, fairly common. Again, is known to be avaiable as "Hastings" brand as well.

Bellett GT air filter:
Fram # CA2648. Don't know if still made.
Baldwin # P505295. Fairly commonly available.
Ryco "Premium" # A134. Not sure on availablity.
Wesfil # WA134. Commonly available.

listed below were found on another website, so again, no further info is known:
AC Delco PC18
Ryco A106
Unipart GFE1013
Alco MD068
Motorcaft EFA17
GUD AG350
ESSO1154 WIX A38
Crossland 868

our known Fram CA2648 was in this list, so that matches what we already know fits.
below are on the same website, and listed for lawn tractors!:
Napa FIL2373
JD AM31400
Kohler 235116
Cub Cadet 385168R2
Tecumeseh 32008
Fram CA77

and our known Baldwin P505295 was in this list as well.

As Dave wrote earlier, a good bet for these filters is to try specialty filter outlets (like One Stop in Lilydale), and farm/machinery shops, as most car spares companies these days aren't interested in chasing odd-ball things like Bellett filters.

[ ^d8 3Dec08 - completed Wesfil details /^d8 ]

Instead of A74, Wesfil WA031 190x253x70mm air filters can be used if 5mm is trimmed off the lower ID (for 200mmID), and less from the top (!195mmID?). (The WA031s were aka "LPG-1" & used in Valiant V8s 1967-70 & Dodge Phoenix 360ci 1960-68.)
These are ~$11 instead of over $30 for A74s. A74s are still made or stocked by Ryco, just not commonly stocked in stores.

Z68 and smaller Rodeo & Piazza variants (Z56B? Z142?) suit the Belletts with the later screw on OIL filters. Z68 oils like A74 airs are plentiful at Ryco, but usually need to be ordered in.

Post subject:  Re: Ryco filter information - oil, fuel & air

correct.

Z56B is the later screw on version. is the same filter as on the common G161Z/180Z/200Z Gemini/Rodeo/Jackaroo.
Z68 is the same diameter, but longer, and is a good fit.
Z9 will fit as well, but it's veeeeeeerrrrrrrryyyyyyyy tight under twin carbs if used on a twin cam, but would be fine on a normal Bellett type engine with the carb/s on the passenger side.

i actually use a Z9 on my Wasp, as i like to use as big a filter as possible.

with thanks to user "BettyBellett":

Reference to replacement oil filter R2211P, Motormate here in Adelaide were able to supply an equivalent -
FLEETGUARD LF566

At $20 they are not given away, but RYCO were not cheap either.

Post subject:  Re: Ryco filter information - oil, fuel & air

I read the end of the oil filter on mine, the bottom faces up (wonderful design). It reads "Penzoil PZ19".

This may or may not be cross threaded onto the engine. This may or may not be the redneck muscle car filter that is typically substituted onto everything that is not listed in the local market reference book. It looks very similar to the long body filter commonly used on VW Beetles with the oil filter relocation kits and spin on adapters.

In all seriousness, matching the thread diameter and pitch and the seal diameter are the only really critical parts of finding a substitute oil filter. The other pieces worry me much more.

Post subject:  Re: Ryco filter information - oil, fuel & air

that "Z9" oil filter number i quoted is a common filter, is mainly used on Ford 6 cylinder's and V8's, both of the windsor and cleveland designs, and is also used on a few other Australian and American 6 cylinder and V8 engines, so i wouldn't be surprised at all if it was the same as the Pennzoil filter you have there.
in case you didn't know, the screw on type oil filter on a Bellett engine mount on an angle, so maybe this is why it looks like it's cross threaded??

Post subject:  Re: Ryco filter information - oil, fuel & air

The number of the early Datsun Bluebird cartridge filter that I have used in the past is R2058p. As I mentioned above these might be just as hard to find as the Bellett ones but you never know your luck.

I'll qualify this with the additional detail that this is for a G161S engine with the ten bolt valve cover. I think most of the Australians are dealing with the G161 with the two bolt valve cover.

I had the parts clerk cross reference this over to a Carquest/Wix brand filter. It came up as a PN 85516. I looked at the threaded end, and it had "3/4" imprinted in it. I asked the clerk if it was metric or SAE, he looked it up, and said it was 3/4 inch x 16 thread pitch, and shows to be for "small Ford like Escort". He stated that older foreign cars commonly use SAE thread oil filters, because metric oil filters were not common, and everything used SAE oil filters.

Above these entries, someone pointed out that Piazza filters are the same size. I know Piazza filters have metric thread. I remember because many years ago I had to find the only company offering metric sandwich plates so I could add a oil cooler to a Piazza.

I'm going to have to carefully check the thread pitch before installing a new filter, and make sure it is SAE before jamming the new filter on and screwing things up more than they may already be.

Post subject:  Re: Ryco filter information - oil, fuel & air

I was able to work with the oil filter this afternoon. I picked up a 3/4 x 16 thread pitch nut to check the threads. I did not want to cross thread a new filter just because the one coming off the car was SAE thread. Surprisingly enough, the oil filter thread on the G161S engine is in fact 3/4 x 16.

Post subject:  Re: Ryco filter information - oil, fuel & air

honestly doesn't surprise me at all, as Bellett and Gemini engines use NPT threads on the oil galleries plugs as well.
when building the Wasp, i thought they would have been a metric thread (on the twin cam, which is the same), but it was proven as 1/8 NPT (from memory 1/8, but definitly NPT) on the galleries.
i needed to get a small pressurised oil hose made for it.
also, the filter i listed, Z9, is an NPT as well, and they've been fine on it.

Ryco's R2224P petrol filter element cross references with a Mazda 1000 coupe 1967 - 70.

I gave up on this and sourced some later TE27 Corolla filters from the US for my Corolla so never got around to calling in on a Mazda spare parts but may be worth a try.

Although if my experience with toyota spares is anything to go by, I doubt they will look for you. If it isn't on the EPC, they don't want to know.

bellett65's post about the expensive oil filter got me to revisit this. I think I paid about $5 for the filter for the G161S engine, list price is $5.47.

It crosses over to fit Ford F150 Pickup with the 4.2 liter engine. There is a long list of shared applications for it listing Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, Jeep, Lincoln, Mazda, Mercury, Mitsubishi.

There was also a list on a Jaguar website matching this filter to a bunch of different manufacturer's part numbers:

Sounds like there are enough variations out there not to run short, thanks JT. Here's another one. If you're in Oz, RYCO R2058P from the local Autopro shop, again $20ish. Did an oil change on the pr91 yesterday. Although this filter is about 2cm shorter than the original R2211P which has recently become obsolite, the spring loaded housing still pushes down on it to keep it firmly in place.

btw.....there is a big difference running fresh premium oil, instead of black watery sludge in the 161. Awsome !!!

I've been using the SAKURA O-1803 oil filter. Does'nt seem to be quite the quality former RYCO's but it definately does the job. My local Jeays Aussie Auto dealer 'had' 3 on on the shelf - $14 ea (they say on the box replaces R2154P)
