Got no idea about the date on this one, but price is in Pounds, so probably around '65. Interesting that the engine is quoted as 1500cc on the front, but 1300cc on the rear. Power has been upgraded from 58hp to 71hp to correct this...minor oversight by the Aussie distributors, proof-reading must be a modern thing!?!

Is is ironic the Wasp and Bellett bought in by Mitsubishi. Now the DMax ute is bought to us again by Mitsubishi. |

I think Dave will be able to correct me but it looks like this is a spec sheet for the JDM model Bellett (base model) with the 1300cc petrol engine doing 58hp where as all of the Aussie delivered ones were the 1500 (G151) motored ones with 71hp... More of a completely wrong spec sheet for another engine that we never got in this country than a simple typo I'd just like to add that "...luxury bench seat.." might be pushing it a little bit... So is the "...capable of high speeds..." bit. Higher than what? Good add though Cheers, R. |

Hey Ross... imagine the speed you'd get going down hill with a ton on the back in a tail wind, and using those wonderful drum brakes to stop it all... the luxury bench seat wouldn't be too good after that IMHO!! |

I was talking to Ross before and it's apparent that the front page of the brochure is some sort of Australian creation; the text is Australia-specific and it's written in the Queen's good English, rather than the crazy and entertaining Japanese Engrish that features in most other English-language brochures. There are clear references to the Bellett, something that the Japanese don't usually do in terms of the Bellett and the Wasp which were almost thought of as two different lines (despite the Bellett-badged wagon, the Bellett Express being based on the Wasp). So I imagine the front page was Australian-designed or at the very least modified from a Japanese template and when doing this, they did not (or were not able to) amend the rear specs sheet. |
