IMHO..... Worth every cent. Very famous rally car of the day in its home country. Is a genuine, factory built GT-R with an undisputed race history. A 69 GT-R is rare enough, and if you can find a real one be prepared to pay $35k or more, but this one with history is unheard of being offered for sale as the only other ones are in Japan and they are keep under lock and key. Add that this car is beautifully restored and surely it's now not a crazy looking price as resto costs could easily be half the asking price on any GT in this long run. Compare it to a Gemini here. What's a nice road car worth? $5k maybe up to $7k? Simiar enough money yo a nice Bellett sedan. We all know a nice GT will set you back $20k now without a problem. Well a Gemini with real race history, especially Bathurst, will set you back at least $30k or more.... 1 is for sale at the moment for over $40k and its a normal single cam, single carb 1.6 Gemini. There was only 2 twin cams raced here, 1 of which sold a year or so ago for an undisclosed figure of well over $60k. The other one is owned by a good mate of mine and he might be tempted by an offer of over $100k thanks to its connection someone by the name of "Brock".... Looking at local rally cars from back then tho, Colin Bond's BDA Escort known as IYK-000 (its Vic rego number) sold about 8 years ago between collectors for over $100k, and that car didn't even have the original body shell, just most of this parts grafted into another body with the right rego. So, is $55k really that steep when you consider what it actually is, and that the world of historic motorsport is only getting bigger and more popular meaning its price will only increase?

Don't get me wrong I love it! And yes to a lot of people $50K isn't a lot of money..... Just not this little black duck..... I know genuine unraced Torana A9X's start at $80k Genuine unraced Valiant Chargers $70k but I suspect I may also be out-of-date Genuine GTO - Unknown but surely over $120k So yes, absolute value I was thinking about the additional charges like.... another $25k to ship and import charges? Plus it's left hand drive right? So would be a show car or club racer ...... Just dreaming J

Raced Chargers are $400k. A raced A9X.... About $250 for one that ran mid pack with an unknown driver. Pur Brock or similar on the side and double or triple that depending. A raced GTHO, you might get change from $1m. Road cars are roughly (and I mean big approx for the sake of comparison) half a race car value in this RT/A9X/GTHO world, so is a road GT-R a $27k car? Absolutely, so sign me up, for 3 when you consider that in 2008 a "normal" GT here was a $15k car, a RHD GT- R in Japan was $30k and the only LHD GT-R not sent to Finland was up for grabs for $53k.... And it has no race history. BTW, remember this is a factory LHD GT-R.... 1 of 3 built? Something close to that out of the 1069 in total. Rarity among the rare also adds to the price, which is seen in weird and wonderful colour and trim spec cars of other makes. For instance, a Vermillion Fire red and black vinyl trim Phase 3 would be a $400k car.... But a Wild Violet purple with white vinyl and cloth insert trim Phase 3 is anither $100k or more again, so let's consider this (and this is not all set in concrete before someone has a whinge.... Is just food for thought): Aust GT, 2008: $15k. Now: $20k. 30% increase. RHD GT-R, 2008: $30k. Now: $40k? LHD GT-R, 2008: $53k. Now: $69k? So, a fully documented, race ready car with full history? If $69k buys a LHD GT-R, does that mean its race conterpart is double that at $138k? OK, probably not, but $55k sounds like the buy of the Bellett year to me. When compared to other "hero" cars of this late 60's - early 70's too, it's an even bigger steal. If comparing this 1000 lakes rallied car yo other 1000 lakes cars, then a works run Mini Cooper S sold in July 2014 for £150,000... Yep, near enough to $300k Australian, so this GT-R now looks even better value. Not having a go at anyone hear, just discussion and comparison for interest sake. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if its snapped up by a Finnish collector (remember that the 1000 lakes rally over there is like Bathurst here.... Its THE event) or its its bought by a Japanese collector and shipped there.

I love it too but that's the problem, virtually all of those who love Belletts (ie potential buyers) are either on this group or known to each other.
Even at $50k let alone the extra involved in bringing it here, the cost is probably way above what any of us are prepared to pay. Even with the history.
Maybe there's somebody else out there (in Oz) that's got plenty of disposable income and wants a Bellett GT. But I doubt it. Finland, maybe. Even prices of the rarer GTHO's etc have dropped in recent years. Maybe because of the silly levels they got to. Somebody at the end of the chain (highest price paid) now has to find somebody with even more money to buy them.

Thanks B That's really interesting It make me love my cars even more if that's possible I knew I was out of date and across the ditch but man that is 'different level' and then some.... 1 of 3 factory LHD GTRs you say.... Well that puts it all into perspective I wonder who will snap it up then as it is a real gem Cheers J

Just added a bit of 1000 lakes info yo my last post too. A 1965 works run Mini Cooper S that ran the 1000 lakes that year sold in July 2014 for..... Wait for it. £150,000. Yep, A$300,000 or near enough to it. Makes a $55,000 GT-R a bloody bargain.

there was a similar car raced by a guy in Dandenong (Gemspares i think the place was. Guy was Darryl maybe, not sure now. He did work on a DOHC engine i put into a Bellett.) I always wondered. How does that car fit into the known Gemini DOHC's racers?

That was Darryl Kendrick. Raced a red one in the early Group A days. Was the sister car to the later car mentioned in the ad for this one that was raced by John White. When it was past its racing days it became a rally car and was written off in an accident. The later John White car still lives and is owned by another mate in Qld.

Technically.... 4 twin cam ones. 2 in Group C and 2 in Group A. There were more normal spec ones in Group C as well. Both Group C cars survive. One stayed the same through its life. It's in Sydney. The other (this Brock one) was relieved of its running gear and turned into a road car while the twin cam stuff was put into a new body and raced in Group A. Both survive. The C version in Melbourne (at the moment) and the A version in Qld. The other Group A car is long gone as discribed.

There's a piece on the web about the high prices of GTHO's in the past, and now. Its interesting to see the performance of this model, easily eclipsed by many cars these days.
A prize winning Falcon GT-HO was passed in at Shannons auction this week (MAY 2016) after it failed to reach the $500,000-plus asking price.
Arguably the most collectable car in Australia the sought after Phase III model was expected to sell in the $470,000 to $520,000 price range.
But it was passed in after bidding topped out at $480,000 on Monday night at the Shannons auction in Melbourne.
Our sources report the car changed hands later for more than this figure.
In 2007 a similar Falcon sold for a record breaking $683,000.
The figure is a far cry from the original $5302 you would have paid for one in 1971.
With a 351 cubic inch (5.8-litre) V8, the GT-HO (the HO stood for handling option) was a race bred special.
Based on the 1969 XW GT, only 300 Phase IIIs were built for Bathurst, with the addition of a beefy rear anti-sway bar, larger Holley carby, lumpier camshaft, free flowing intake manifold and different lifters and valves.
The engine pumped out an impressive for the time 300bhp or 224kW in today’s figures, but the real figure is said to have been closer to 380bhp or 284kW.
It was apparently understated for insurance purposes.
The GT-HO could sprint from 0-100km/h in 6.5 seconds and was able to dispatched the quarter mile in 14.4 seconds.
