Hi Guys as you may have already seen in the My Bellett section of the forum in PR91's race car thread on Saturday the 16th of July, 3 Belletts and 4 drivers turned up to the the John Mott Memorial sprint for a day of car thrashing fun!!!

The John Mott Memorial Sprint is a sprint meeting hosted by the Nissan Car Club of Australia at the famous Sandown Motor Race Way in Melbourne Australia. What started out as a bit of chat over a cup of coffee at the Bellett Dirvers HQ (Trackside Race and Rally Tyres http://www.tracksidetyres.com.au/) turned out to be a full blown grudge match involving 3 Bellett sedans of different tune and one owner even brought in a highly skilled and ultra light weight interstate driver to see if he could give the edge needed to be the fastest Bellett of the day.

Now that I have set the scene for the big event I will introduce to the drivers and the cars that were used on the day.

Starting on the right you have Tomanybelletts a.k.a Craig, 65Bellett aka Gav , 2ltrDOHC Ross and PR91 aka Brett.

Now to the all important thing the cars. Tomanybelletts was using his Roman Red 1965 model Isuzu Bellett Rally car with his custom built Tarmac suspension. This thing is a real sleeper, from the outside it looks like a tough old historic rally car with quite a sedate exhaust note and induction roar but once it rolls out onto the track it is an absolute rocket ship!!! I don't know exactly what has been to the engine and will let him fill you in with exacting details but the one thing I will tell you is after seeing this thing fly around the track the 1500 ohv engine the Bellett was blessed with has a lot of tuning potential. PR91 was using his well proven Race Car. PR91 has an excellent threadhttp://www.bellett.net/forums/vie ... f=13&t=709 about the car that is well worth the read. The car is extremely competitive and has given many a modern sports car a fright as it has flown past. There is most definitely nothing subtle about this car, it is bright loud and much to my annoyance a lot quicker than my car  Now we get to a car that I do know a little bit about my white with the green stripe 1965 Pat Crea tribute car. This car was driven by me and the "Tamed Racing Driver" 2ltrDOHC. The car has a bit of suspension work with the lower control arms being reinforced and lengthened all of the springs being changed it also has 2 rear leaf springs and a Sigma disc brake front end. The motor in this car was also built to a spec based on the famous "Wheels Magazine Project Bellett" viewtopic.php?f=31&t=164 .

On the track the PR91 Bellett race car was clearly the fastest of the day, but in saying that the Tomanybelletts rally car was not that far behind it and for me was a real surprise as to just how quick these two cars really were. Both cars tussled for the lead all day and flew the Bellett flag extremely high. Unfortuately after a couple of sessions out on the track the Rally car started to get a bit of an intermittent miss that was not able to be remedied at the track and PR91's race car on the last lap of the day blew the number 1 spark plug out of the head!!! Now to the news you have all been sitting on the edge of your seats waiting for "How did the Pat Crea car and the ultra light weight Tamed Racing Driver go"? Well we definitely were the oldest car out there and we were best looking and we were the only car with a trophy for being the runner up peoples choice car at the Bellett Nationals 2010, but alas we were the slowest :o We may not have been fast but we were awesome. The car rolled out of the shed 10 o'clock the night before the sprint was test driven on the way to the track!! 2ltrDOHC and I did an estimated 160km's around the track and flogged that poor little car mercilessly the entire day with out having to put a spanner on it and in true Club Car style we drove the car 70 km's each way to and from the track and I drove it to work on monday because after all it is pretty much my daily drive :D

Who is going the wrong way????

Driver Change. As the car was double entered it would come in from one session and go straight back out for the next meaning it was doing 30 to 40 minutes on the track at a time!!!

I was gonna put some pics up of this, but the danger of allowing your mates to glean all your photos is that they pinch them all an put them up!

Saves me the trouble though!

Thanks to PR91 for the deathfang around the track! Fortunate for me that my cries of terror were not audible on the video!

Thanks to 65Bellett for the fang of the Bellett to the Chinese shop! Plenty of space for Chinese food when there's no interior in there!

w00t!

Dave

I'd like to raise a cheer for car number 164....is that a Sud I see there? It appears he's in front of Ross, who's at the craziest of angles...just recovering or just going into one Ross?

WOW,WOW and WOOOOW !!

Who needs F1 or Moto GP ? I would rather watch this.......ALL DAY.

Dave said he and 2ltr would be heading over for some action. Thanks for sharing the big day. ( and noting the weight factor Dave) But it didn't seem to make much difference to the twin OHC jobbie. Dare say you enjoyed the fang Ross.

Returning to B'net after long abstonence ( and still much frustration with blue beastie, not going since May !!) this footage could not have been timed better. Totally lifted some low spirit, Thanks guys.

I'll promise to post up the whole saga with the Blue Beast, and hopefully someone can shine some light on things and point me in the right direction......PLEASE  !! Look in help section.

B.

Yep Dude, sorry

i did stand corrected on that one with a post in "My Bellett" under your race car. Also mentioned how the wheight factor still didn't seem to phase the SOHC Jobbie.

Gotta watch it all again when we get more internet gigs. Woohooooo !!

Just realised that I never said Thanks to Gav for letting me flog the Pat Crea car! It was a fantastic day and the weather, atmosphere, and pit crew were all fantastic!

One thing I have to correct Gav on though, we were not the slowest! There was at least two cars slower out there on the day... a 200B Datsun and we even managed to over take a 2007 (ish) Suzuki Swift, although a lap later I did bin it in the kitty litter so not sure if that counts :P

Thanks again to all involved and we'll return the favour when you come to Adelaide and hit up the great Mallala :)

Cheers,
Ross.
(aka Tamed Racing Driver...)

PS Love that pic with the back wheel in the air, explains why there was traction problems through out the day!

It was an absolute Hoot. I won't fib though when my car disappeared and the recovery vehicles went out on the track I was wondering how I was going to get to work on Monday :-)

If you are in for next year I think I will have to get the SECRET WEAPON Twin Cam Delco Hacked Monster out and go and dispense some good old fashioned Isuzu Justice????? What do you think?
