Sorry it's not a Bellett. And to think, these were our enemy in the 70's My son wanted to know if this was a reverse grid race - arsehole.

I seem to remember a certain race Bellett withe the words "Mazda Eater" threateningly blazed across the back bumper........ How the wheel turns! Cheers Waldo, Matt.

Before this topic disappeares into the throng of Bellettnetiness, I'd like to thank Waldo for showing us......HOW IT'S DONE AROUND THE MOUNTAIN !!!!!! Don't ever let anyone tell you motor sport is NOT a sport. Cause, damn, I was out of breath and had the lactic acid build up in my arms just watching and taking the passenger seat view of those mighty fine laps you we're pulling, mate.
That's a little screamer, the RX2. It's barely touching the ground over the hump in Conrod.........whoooofffffff !!

Great footage there, Waldo. You make it look very easy so i reckon you have been doing this racing lark for a little while!
loved the section where your all over the back of the RX7. your car must be very well prepared.
i reckon the cost of racing keeps most of us weekend warriors out of a car. keep up the good work.

I taught him all he knows, and maybe even some of what I knew.

Ah, yes, the best way to drive and develope your skills is with a Bellett, from there the world is yours. pearcesnr. P.S. Some will admit, some will not. But if you have not driven a standard Bellett to the limit, YOU will never know.

Also, I was at Bathurst in FEB this year with poppy, and it was not a reverse grid, POPPY was one of the fastest.

oz_toffa, all of us have started with very little, yes the cost of owing and running a National level car is big, but the enjoyment of running what you have, at any stage in your life, is nothing you can explain. Motorsport is there for all, enjoy. pearcesnr. P.S. Poppy started in club events, in a Bellett, ( hope he does not read this ) around 1975, and I started in 1977 at club events in a Bellett, if you have a passion or dream follow it.

Poppy and Pearce Snr, what sort of names are they for a couple of pimple faced brats, I taught yus how to tip em over, I even gave George a go in my standard 1500 just so he could experience the act.
By the way, just got home from the Nationals in Coonabarabranflakesplace, fantastic weekend and most nostalgic for me, I'm sure there will be plenty of discussion about it.
Maybe should be a new thread, cause there's plenty to discuss and show.

Nice photo young Geoffrey. Massive crowd watching one of Teditor's students - no respect, aye Ted.
Will be back there again - Feb 3/4 2012. Wanting to break the 2.30 mark this time. I hope you will be there again Geoff and maybe the Teditor might wander down. Love to see anybody else that can come along, I am sure I could get some passes. I could even organise a flag marshal spot for the weekend at this famous circuit - let me know early.

your very right pearcy,
i lived in NSW when i was 18 years old and spent my formative years driving my Bellett and my motorcycles up and down the the roads into the Blue mountains. Between Penrith and Katoomba was my stomping ground and i had quite a number of memorable moments with my standard bellett, updated front sway bar-rear multi leaf rear and twin SU's and extractors, around the Woodford-Faulconbridge-Springwood bends. Often with the rear coming around the corner before the front and boy she was twitchy on the dirt roads!! then there was the wet weekends...
i think i found the limit quite often and sometimes past it too.
but getting a car up to track day, Sprint day, hill climb level takes a lot of work and it still does cost. Would be good to have 2 or 3 people sharing the work and the car.
you never know, one day it may just happen. the old Grey Ghost could be a good place to start!
cheers
OZ

gotta start somewhere oz! a mate of mine bought an r31 skyline for hill climbs it was stock standard, gave it a look over/fluid change etc and went for it, on the first day his time was only a few seconds slower than a fully prepped R31 on race tyres! now he is slowly getting more done to the car stripping interior, new tyres etc so far hasnt cost much at all but he is upgrading bits as its affordable to him yet keeping it ready to race! i know so far the total cost for the car is under 1000.

OZ, any way is good, you have had the pleasure of the Blue Mountains roads in NSW, get out there and do it. Poppy, I hope to plan Feb next year, Sports Sedans are also running, should be good. Geoff.
