Does anybody know where the reverse light switch is in a 1500 auto? I have checked from under and can't locate it, maybe it's in the shifter mechanism, just thought i would ask before going in to find it, as some of you have a workshop manuals.
Thanks

had a look geoff.... no mention of the auto so it must have been an extra suppliment for the chassis manual.
GT manuals were the same.

i do have a grainy photocopy of an auto sales brochure here, but it doesn't show enuf detail of things like that..... damn.

but the auto's are just a Borg Warner 35 unit, with the same adjustments as an XP Falcon (so I'm told), so maybe a search of a BW35 will show it from a different car? plenty of cars had them. alot of ford's, chryslers, leylands, etc. sounds silly, but they were all the same trans with different settings for each car, so it'd be worth a shot.

cheers.

O.K., I have something to check out. I have an auto 'box out of a car, so I can have a look, but it's at Gary Carter's. I'll try & get a look tomorrow.
Cheers, Matt.

it appears that the start inhibit and reverse switch are on the same mechanism.

Manual says

Problem:
Incorrect starter/Reverse lamp operation

Repair:
Manual control linkage adjustment incorrect. Fix is adjust linkage
Mounting screws loose. Fix is tighten screws
Faulty connections or switch. Fix is repair connections or replace switch.

This doesnt really tell you where its located but it sounds like you could check park and neutral is working correctly as its the same mechanism.

Thanks guys, thought it would be a 2 minute job, climbed under car today and thought we would just be a matter of joining wires, but there are none, cant see where a switch woukld be, did find 2 wires going into harness with oil sender wire, but nothing from box, so will pull the shifter mechanism apart as I suspect will be in there somewhere.

Tourer...

dont remove the shift mechanism!!!

just looked at the spare trans in the shed.

the selector is coming in the trans on the right and the 4 connector switch is on the left as you look at the top of the trans with the bell housing to the front.

that is where the wiring should be going to. check further under the car.

can send a pic if you need it

Here they are.
Selector can be seen on right of the 1st pic. Switch is right near transmission cooler line connection.

Hey OZ,
Checked out the car today and can't find switch, have had another look at the picture tonight and will have another look tomorrow,
but have dicovered that I can start in gear, :x so I wonder if switch has been removed. My question is, The first cable is the kick down cable, then the switch and then pipe, is that pipe to go to radiator for cooling? :?: if so my car has a manual radiator.
Can see a manual gearbox looming here.
