took the car for a little run today came back water tap wasnt turned off the top hose and radiator were hot hose to bottom was coolish ...me thinks thermostst ...took off the housing its badly corroded and no thermostat 2 questions ...where do i get a new thermostat housing or has anyone an as new one and secondly should i rubn a thermostat if so which one ? would there be air in the system after putting in a new radiator? so many questions id appreciate some advice cheers davo

hi Davo Part no for thermostat is TT1-160 avail at supercheap,n repco or any parts store, brand name Trident. I would take top housing with and try to match it, and yes I would replace thermostat, they do 2 things, when car is cold they stop flow thu radiator to warm it up, and when open they restrict flow thu radiator so the water stays in radiator to cool, it not there water runs thru radiator to fast, and doesn't cool. Thats my theory for it's worth. Cheers Geoff

Quite agree, Geoff. They were included and installed by the manufacturer and i have some mates that swear the car runs better without it! It would never even get near correct operating temp in winter and if your engine is overheating in summer, have the radiator rod cleaned and check the rest of the cooling system. Isuzu designed the cooling in the Bellett with approx 20% margin for extra hot days and very rarely have issue with temp even on a 45 degree day. Doesnt hurt to get the heater checked and cleaned as well if its still connected.
My deluxe drove from Melbourne to Adelaide on a 20 Degree day with a 65% blocked radiator and was still just running on the gap between the white zone and the red zone. RobSA GT sedan made it up to Coona and back to Balranald with a radiator that was 90% plus blocked before we lost the windscreen and then forgot to check the water!! That tow rope did come in handy after all...
Tough bloody little cars if you ask me for an opinion.

the thermostat housings i have are from toyotas, the one on the florian is a celica one and i think the one on the bellett is from a corolla. always run a thermostat, and a good quality coolant.

THANKS GUYS FOR ALL YOUR ADVICE ...WHAT THERMOSTAT SHOULD I RUN AND HOW MUCH COOLANT ? CHEERS AND THANKS AGAINOBVIOUS THE TANK WAS HOT ..NEW RADIATOR--- TOP HOSE HOT AND BOTOOM HOSE COOLISH DOES THIS MEAN THE WATER WASNT CIRCULATING ...PERHAPS AN AIR BLOCK?

Hi Davo, If you have a new radiator fitted, then I wouldn't be over concerned unless it was making steam, The water at the top of the radiator has just passed thru the engine, so will be hotter, and at the bottom of the radiator would have been cooled thru the radiator. Without a gauge it is really hard to tell how hot is. I would fit a new thermostat Trident TT1 160 and a good quality coolant, I would use a concentrate over pre mixed, and just follow the instructions on the bottle and overdo it rather than under, an air lock on the radiator would be very unlikely, some of the newer cars get air locks because the radiator is a lot lower than the motor, and they have a bleeder nipple in the thermo housing. Put a thermostat housing in, new thermostat and coolant go for a drive an enjoy it. Geoff

only advise i have Davo is i do not trust a new thermostate i have had them not open in the past. I would fit the new 1 and leave the car run with the cap off watch the temp gauge and when it starts to warm up keep checking the top hose it will stay cold until the thermostate opens and go hot in a second or so check water level,fit cap and then go for a drive. Recheck water level when cold.

this was on a past post: It turns out that the thermostat housing from a 1967 - 1981 Toyota Corolla is the right shape and dimensions to fit onto a Bellett G151 engine.

I would imagine though that G150 and G161 possibly Florian have same housing

yes you can use the same housing on the florian motor as the bellett, i chose to use the celica thermostat housing as the previous owner had already had one fitted, the only difference between the celica & corolla housing is the hieght the corolla one is alot lower than the celica one and the corolla one does look alot better on the bellet!

hi went to supercheap nothing like it in 3 shops from kilkenny castings do the mountings i will have to wait till monday to see if they have a listing (which i doubt i guess i could send them one ansd they could remake them ...the celeca one do you know what rear and model cheers davo?
