Hi!

Does someone have the original Bellett radio? I've never seen one here. If you own one, I'd appreciate a picture of it.

Cheers,

"Mr J"

PR91 would probably have a pic of this one. He's owned the most Aussie Belletts out of us here. My Deluxe had a crappy 1990's AM/FM unit hacked into the dash so I've got nothing, and Dave's have all been '65 or '67 models with no stereo's!

Keep an eye out in the brochure section as Dave is posting a lot of brochures as time permits and they'll surely have a picture of the radio in one of them!

PR91 Brett, where are you??

Cheers,
Ross

My white PR20 column-shift sedan has got a radio... it's a 1960s Sanyo AM-frequency radio with the speaker in the main body of the radio.

So what you said is technically incorrect.... but yeah... I never hooked it back up again when I (mostly) restored it.

I saw a GT with a Sanyo radio with what appeared to be a large slot over the radio display. I assumed it was an early 80's cassette deck, but the slot looked larger. Did they have 8-track tapes in 1968-1969, and would they have put such a radio in a Japanese car originally?

Also, I had heard that the radio frequencies used in Japan for broadcast are not the same as AM and FM bands in the US. So they are all just replaced and become paperweights. Or at least that is the story from some of the certified auto importers that deal with converting newer expensive and exotic cars to US specifications for legal road use.

Yeah, not working and that car hasn't been out for years (?) so I'm taking the high ground that I'm right

I can confirm that the AM/FM bands in Japan are different to australia. Any modern imports (skylines and the like) have the radio's pulled because they are no use here or atleast need reprogramming if they can be.

Cheers,
Ross.

O.K., I've only just read this thread, but I thought I'd offer this - Various radios were fitted as they were dealer fitted along with heaters and carpets to satisfy Australian content requirements. They called this "deluxe equipment", and it often came with crest style deluxe badges punched into front guards and occasionally bootlid. I know this because one brother ticked the box and one didn't in 1967. (Shame the cheap ratbags didn't supply blowers on the heaters). You had to get a "fully imported deluxe" on pre '69 models to get tinted glass, stainless window frames, 2-speed wipers, armrest door pulls, roofline grab handles, passenger door pocket, rear door cablight actuators and a japanese character tyre pressure sticker. Radios were usually 5 push button A.M. units. (Aus didn't get F.M. till about '77).
JT191, 8-tracks didn't realy take off here, mostly only fitted to U.S. imports - we mostly went straight to cassettes. Cheers, matt.

Did everyone know that MrJ is from Finland? His "I´ve never seen one here" means in Finland.. I had a Sanyo radio in my -66 Deluxe... So, it can maybe be an original radio.. I have it still as a garage radio, working with battery. I have seen different kind of radios in bochures but never just like my radio, but near. So I have always thought that it is not an original radio. It is working but two of the knobs are missing. I bought that Deluxe for parts about 30 years ago.

Our Deluxes went first to Sweden and when the Swedish importer went down, the Finnish importer bought the cars to Finland. Maybe the swedes had ordered some of the Deluxes with radios.

Hi!

Because I didn't find any original Bellett radio, I modified an old monoradio to look like the Bellett-radio as well as possible.

I removed the front plate from the radio (text in german!), and costructed a new one (size the same as in the dummy cover plate, see pic) and painted it with black wrinkle paint.

Radio with the original front plate.

Now it looks like this (see pic). Maybe someone (who don't know Belletts well) could believe that the radio has always been there?

By the way, I guess you guys don't know that it's still winter here in Finland (lots of snow) and all the Belletts stay inside and are waiting for the summer. Maybe we can send then more pics of our Belletts when they appear to the streets again.

Cheers
"MrJ"

Reply to BELLQLD - G'day Dave. Sorry, all my cablights are allocated to cars - it is hard to find working ones. I suggest re-posting under "wanted" so more see it. Otherwise, perhaps take length measurement to a wreckers & maybe match something up.
Cheers, Matt.

OK I realize this thread is way old.
Did you ever get a picture of an original radio?
I have one and could take a picture if still needed.
FWIW I may even have an extra radio kicking around (AM only as I recall).

I'd be interested in an Australian spec radio if anyone has one, just for looks really...I don't listen to the stereo in mine anyway.
