Congratulations. Can't wait to actually see the car "in the flesh".
Bad luck with damage to both cars. Only means extra work not accounted for initially.
Hubcaps are Isuzu. From my recollection the Gemini in Japan ran this type. GMH imported these
and put them on the LX Sunbird. I went through every wrecking yard in CQ and came up with 4 only. I did want 6.
2 spares. Have cleaned them up and painted them for my sedan. I have 3 deluxe hubbys. Looking for a 4th.
As Lewis commented. Catalogue every thing. Then you will know what you have. What you want. And. What you don't want.

How did you tell your wife about 2nd car.?????

Dave.

Gent's in the light of day, some nasties appear. There is pretty bad rust in the battery area and possibly down to the chassis rail. I just quickly looked this morning before leaving for work.

No fluid in master cylinder, but has brand new rubber caps on the 2 reservoirs. Typically these in my experience deteriorate badly so new is good !

The battery was on charge all night and seems to be good. Runs the headlights ok and turns the motor over. (Just briefly to check it.)

I need to know from you guys which way should the boot lock key hole face when it's unlocked??? Its currently horizontal. I assume thats unlocked ???? I can't open the lock, the ignition key is a double sided type but i think the boot lock is a single sided key ??????? I have no key for it.

Radiator appears to have been re-coed. Green fluid in the radiator looks fresh.

I think the damage has jammed the boot closed. The only way i can open it, i think, is to remove the rear parcel shelf and try and undo it from inside (with long arms) ????

I need to get it open to see whats in there.... no coil on the car either. What type of coil do late models use ?? Resistor type or standard non-resitor?? Distributor has new cap too so it appears the guy was trying to trace the ignition problems and gave up......

1st thing to do is open the boot, then see if i can get her going.......

then sit back and see exactly what parts i have.

glenn

I don't think the car will make Merimbula at this stage. Just no time and too many things to do.

But I will give it a shot. The rust in the battery area and sill is a concern as it's maybe a RWC issue so needs to be fixed. To do that properley means engine out. I want to make sure the engine is ok before i do that as if i remove and replace then find engine is crook, it has to come out again. I don't like the matt black sprayed in engine bay either. Actually behind the engine, its still white, where the spray gun would not reach. YUK.

I have to get the car in the shed and have a good look under it too.

Congrats mate...at least it is all in your hands now! Shame about the rust, can be fixed no probs (as you know), but with definitely slow down roadworthy I'd imagine.

I'm too much of a noob to help with your questions, but really happy to see the car here! Looking forward to hearing about progress.

at this stage, I don't know if i can get the trailer again.

Interesting too, my Ute's fuel ecomomy (?) showed >35litres / 100km on a slight uphill drive, about 9-10 on the flat, pulling the trailer and Sports..

Hey Glenn,
Pretty common spot for rust in the Bellett, looks nasty but repairable, great to see you have got it, at least can now assess instead of guess. looks big job for 2 weeks. Coil will be non resister, have just replaced mine.
Good Luck hope you can do it for Nats.if not next year. Did 775k's in mine on the week end, went well, has an oil leak to chase down and replacing rack boots and tie rod end rubbers today as a little play in rack, Air con being done this Friday, all goin will be readty for the trip then.

yes, battery area is common although I never had one before this bad. But just time to fix it really. And 2-3 weeks is just not enough.
OK on coil, thanks. I will have to buy one. Most in wreckers i would think are resistor type. What did you use ??

Can you tell me about the boot lock? is horizontal key position unlocked or locked ??

Sounds like you are ready to go with yours !

I think i found a air filter to fit mine.... going lunch time here to try it in my air box. It's not exactly the same but possibly adaptable.

Glenn,
Boot lock horizontal is unlocked, I tried pretty hard to get filter, closest was out of 180B SSS, from memory was to high, I was talking to Tom Amos at motorfest last year, and he said that they used something and cut it down and glued, not sure what is was, but I think Dave M would be able to enquire for you, I had a set of rechromed air cleaners from a 1600GT, so was easier to make adaptors.

ok on boot lock, it miust be jammed shut from the damage. I might try some force on it ! I found a spare boot lock with key in the spares car junk (alreday come in handy)

yes, a 180 SSS air cleaner is 60mm high Vs 50mm in the Sports. A bit shorter overall also. I thought it might be possible to adapt it soemhow ? Even so, they are hard to find also.

would be interested to know more about what Tom has done

Glenn,
Surely there would be an option on the Air cleaner element :?:
It does look like a Datsun air cleaner style and size, what about the Datsun Sport, either the 1600 or the 2000 version :?:
I will check with Tom to see what he has.

I went and bought a SSS filter just now. I think i can make it fit ok with a small extension on the base of the air box. Trick will be to make it look not like an extension !

The guy in the workshop knew of Bellett's too.

Glenn i had a look at a boot lid, if you take a number plate light out you could get a screw driver in that hole and pop the c clip that retains the lock and remove the lock :?: looks easy ;) poke your finger in and open it.
