Not sure about the car, but I am a 64 vintage, and you're right Sticky...young at heart but old at the knees.
Back to the Spa saga. Because of the problems we were experiencing and the massive speed differential between the two classes, with heavy heart I decided we shouldn't do the night race. This pleased most of the team anyway because it meant we would get back to the bar before closing time.
We did practice in the dark though, and it threw up my favourite picture of the weekend.

In the end we were pleased with 23rd from 37 starters. Here's the classified results if you're interested...

The gearbox doesn't look too clever, but I'm going to run it (with new bearings) at Brands Hatch on Saturday, and if we get through the race without it getting worse...and it's drivable, we'll leave it in for the Revival as it is.
Assuming the box behaves, it will be interesting to see how the car goes at Brands. The club circuit is a twiddly little circuit and may suit a nimble car such as the Bellett over some of the others.

Wise words indeed Lizzie, and I'll admit there were times when these sentiments were being echoed by myself and doubtless most of my team......

......even now, as we're back from Brands Hatch with a busted gearbox. The damage inflicted at Spa was just too much, and I lost forth on the first lap of the race. It was a struggle in qualifying and there it was...gone on lap one.
Luckily Brands only needs forth in one place, so it wasn't the end of the world and the next 26 laps passed without any great event....except for an A40 pole vaulting over its own exhaust and then spitting it out at me just as I was going past.
We ended up 19th from 30 starters.

Hopefully a few snaps from the race, and news of a plan for the gearbox, next.

Pity about the 'box, Mark. Guess even a Bellett has limitations ! I hope you get it sorted out asap.

Got to pull you up on that one Glen, the box only let go because of human failings. Everyone who looked at it back here was impressed by its strength and design, and if the plug had not have come out, there was many more races in it.
We've decided to put the box from the front cut that Greg sent over with Rolie,(once again, cheers Greg) this requires a little modification, but hopefully will still lead to an overall improvement as we think the ratios are a little closer.

The later box from Greg's front cut went in with the minimum of fuss.
The guys from Finland correctly predicted that the prop would need to be 100mm shorter, and one was sent over and it went straight in, they also predicted that finding the right gearstick might be a problem and promptly sent 3 different types over.....including the one I already had, none of them fitted!.....The reply from Ari in Finland was funny..."so Bellett's got more than 4 different sticks, I'm not surprised!"
We now have to test at Goodwood on Friday and make sure it all works...and then it's the Revival in exactly a month. Fingers crossed.
