Yes its a bit quiet Gary. They are all probably having heaps of fun Anyway I got into the spirit and got my two out for a wash, a drive and then put them to bed up in the back shed. which I have tidied up with new storage shelves , (For my small supply of parts amongst other stuff)

The "Adelaide Advertiser" the next day:- "New Route rally good idea" "The sun beat down on their freshly polished bonnets as the Bay to Birdwood motoring enthusiasts rumbled their way from West beach through the Adelaide Hills. In the event, 1650 cars made between 1956 and 1977 followed a new route via the Sth Eastern Freeway rather than Nt East rd. after a break in the 33 year tradition of the event."
As a 'specatator' following along the event in our street car (Sport next year) we were amazed at the number of people on the sides of the road, cheering and waving the entrants on. Many have the whole family out on the street, with the BarbQ going also. All the patrons of some Hotels on the route, were out the front also. Kind of reminded us of the Tour De France on TV where you see so many people on the sides of the roads. Unless you witness this, it would be hard to imagine the people of Adelaide getting so involved.
It took us nearly three hours in the procession to arrive at Birdwood ! Such was the intensity of the events entries. And then to see all those cars at Birdwood and the number of people there. Cars as far as you can see. An amazing experience. And perfect weather to go with it.
On the return, we stopped at historic town of Hahndorf to see entrants cruising the main street there also. One would imagine the cash input to the area each year must be huge.
As an aside:- We stayed in the Glenelg area for the 3 days and witnessed the sun going down over the water on saturday evening. Along with thousands of others I might add. Of course, that was the day of the footy finals and people were kicking a football around in the area on jetty road. Several young lady's emerged from the Stamford Hotel, obviously off to something pretty formal as they we all dressed in long gowns, best shoes etc. One started to call "kick it to me, kick it to me" and then took a perfect high mark of the ball ! Then, in high heels, made a perfect torpedeo kick back into the crowd! Picked up her handbag and off they went........

For those who haven't seen it before, this is the Birdwood Mill. Since its nowhere near water and has a big chimney, it must be steam powered. I visited here many years ago when the museum was in it's infancy and did go inisde the Mill but can't recall if the machinery is intact.
For those interested in Holdens, this was the "Hurricane" show car built back in the 70's I think. Pretty sure it has a 4.2litre Holden V8. I believe it languished in a shed somewhere for many years and was fairly recently restored and is now in the Museum, which is in a purpose built very large separate building.

the hurricane was in the Holden museum in Echuca for years till Holden took it back and resto'd it. It had the very first Holden V8 built fitted to it.
And the Stamford... Nice place that!

And the Stamford... Nice place that! Hurricane was built in 1969. There's an excellent history of the car through to restoration here http://www.themotorreport.com.au/52692/ ... ar-re-bornThe Museum also had a Piazza in there. The one owner, won by a guy on TV show years ago. It needed a good cut and polish though. ...Almost stayed there also, Brett, but charging extra for parking is a bit rich. Stayed 2 years ago after coming down on The Ghan. Lovely city, could easily live in Adelaide. We were quite surprised to see the Police driving their car along the footpath/bike path on the foreshore that runs from the Stamford along the beach. We walked several km along there and suddenly the Police were bearing down on us ! Saw this Elan too, this is the one with the Isuzu DOHC.

For those that missed the event, I put up some pictures of each car at the winery on my own web site, so as not to clog this group, if you are interested. http://carnut.info/bellett/Adelaide_Sept_2013/Bellett_Nats_2013.htmglenn
