This is a little story about my 61 panel van.
It is found in Finland in 2010, it has been sitting in a barn since 1965 when the car was not needed more.
It was great fun to take the ferry over to Finland, I was very excited how it would look.
Here are the pictures I got before I went and pick it up.

Love that last photo. All those early VW's together looks awesome. Not too many split window Beetles left here, let alone the Combi's.

I love this story. Amazing barn find and still so original.
Your a very lucky man.
I love the last photo with the pretzel window beetle. I had a 56 oval for a couple of years but the split ovals are very hard to find in Australia now.

Thanks for all the encouragement!
Yes the split is real nice, we also have some ovals a picture of some of them further down.
This is when we mounted safari windows that are bought in England when we were there in the spring.

Genuine Karmann convertible!

I don't think we got any genuine convertibles here; all we have a customised jobs of VARIOUS QUALITY!

That being said, there are a few Karmanns here now that people have imported.

I also know a guy who has a split-oval Beetle ex-South Africa; they never sold any split-ovals here at all.

That same guy has a Hebmueller under restoration as well!

Cheers,

Dave

Nice bus. Very rust free, an amazing find!

There are certainly a few Karmann Cabs in Australia. I know of at least 5, 1 of which is a RHD converted 79 car from California with the factory fuel injection.

No one can do a convertible as nice as karmann!

I would go and watch a 63 beetle, but it was too expensive and too poor in condition so we went for scrap safari and found these three cars a Tempo Viking a 71 bus and a single cab 72.
He who sold the beetle has a nice garage.

We also looked at a friend's luxury bus that is been restore.

Its interesting to see those cars just fading away like that.

We have constant Ads in the newspapers etc offering $200 min for any old car to be taken away. To the scrap yards. This will eventually make it fairly unlikely some enthusiast cars survive for much longer, in the 'bush' or tucked away in yards when easy money can be had for them.

That is the first Tempo Viking I have ever seen
I have seen a few Tempo Matador's though and the brother of one of our fellow forum members (KJB) has one in his garage.
I have unfortunately lost the photos of it though when my hard drive melted down a few weeks ago.
I might have post pics of it on here somewhere but can't remember in which thread......

We are not quite normal in the north we bring home any crap. ;)

Now two of the three cars picked up and the bus I have found a buyer for and he will restore it! :D
This will happen with the cars if they were not rescued... :?

The Tempo is an excellent find...........

and I reckon "pick up" day (looks like it was well planned and prepared ) would have been full of excitement.
