BUT at nearly $400 AUS you would have to really need it!!

Thats less than what I paid for a NOS pump off Import Monster to get my LUV back on the road.

Wow ok, :o me thinks my Luv will get an electric pump and a thermo fan as I am
no too worried about originality, keep my new pump for the Wasp!! :D

It's a lot of money but at the time I was concerned I may not find another one. I didn't want to go electric.

Mine cost at least $500 to rebuild, so this isn't a bad price at all. If I was mad keen on another Bellett any time soon I'd buy this and stick it on the shelf...any engine rebuild will end up stranded for months without water pump parts, like mine was.

Yeah, that was a bit of a bargain. However, I bought 2 of those and only the shaft was common, I had to buy a seal from someone else to complete the kit. They can be an inadvertent trap.

As long as someone got what they needed thats the main thing!
Still hopefull someone down the track will be able to talk one of the manufacturers
to deal in a quantity that makes it viable.

I don't think any one individual will take that punt to be honest, as they'll be left sitting on stock forever. If a few of you can get together and arrange a group purchase for that 100pc MOQ from China it may be doable (100pcs between 5 people = roughly $2,500 a piece).

But $300-400 per pump is a reasonable price, I think people need to get used to this pricing as the days of $20 water pumps are long gone.

every time this comes up, i think of the water pumps used on a zillion Holdens with the Grey or maybe the red motor (or black) and think those simple pumps might just be adaptable to a Bellett. Mind you I don't have either of them to compare and see if that's feasible.

Depending on the height of the Holden pump, an aluminium adapter plate might work ? eg a plate 10mm thick, drilled to Bellett holes and countersunk bolts used to screw to Bellett block, then tap the plate to take the Holden pump. All assuming the water passage would line up or close enough.

Just did a quick price check on an electric setup and I reckon it can be done for around $300.
Davis Craig electric pump for up to 3Lt is $185
A Thermo fan setup for around $35.
The original pump backing plate should be able to be modified with an outlet easily enough.
A Couple of hoses and away you go (yes I know it prob wont be quite that simple BUT)
Might just have t have a play around with that :geek:

Now I could be wrong but I thought the real early Bellett was the the same pump but the backing plate was removed!?

Here is one I prepared earlier
8mm aluminium adaptor plate with 35mm water hose fitting replacing mechanical water pump
In top of picture, driver's side engine bay is Davies Craig electric water pump
I ran an inline water temp switch in the upper radiator hose.
13 inch electric fan (take note the fan suck a lot of amps)

Is the adaptor plate one you had made or was it readily available?
Where current was concerned I was wondering with the pump and thermo fan how it would go.
Might look at a possible upgrade to the alternator.

Three words
Custom, custom & custom
You don't need to run a bigger generator/alternator
Just a dedicated circuit with relay much like with spot lights
Trick to be aware of, there is a 10mm hole from the front of the block...
Do not blank this off as will lead to a vapour lock / hot spot and then gasket problems ie blown head gasket
If you look closely at the origional pump backing plate you can see it.
This needs to be plumbed in somehow when you change to electric pump
I tapped the hole and
Mocked-up a banjo bolt, however I settled on a AN fitting for quick release

Thought as much.
I have dedicated relays for the headlights as it seems to make the rocker switches last longer carrying less current.
The advice is greatly appreciated, am starting to look forward to the conversion!

New fan belt also, perhaps a part number would help those doing this conversion to save mucking about ?

You might be onto something Glenn...I wonder if it might be possible to find a proprietary pump shaft/bearing/impeller of the right length (maybe Holden), scan in the Bellett water pump housing, CAD up a modified housing to accept the new shaft/bearing/impeller and then CNC machine a new housing? Off shelf aluminium might do the trick, a coarse sandblast on the outside will make it look like a cast housing...completely rough estimate, maybe $100? Add backing plate, gasket and proprietary parts, maybe another $100? Maybe we can 'open source' our way out of trouble and have a reliable supply of parts?
