I know, getting off original topic....But nice work Flying......had no idea you did casting as well, great to know. And I'm sure the lenses are more affordable than a set of GT hubs Dwaine, thanks for going to the effort of designing and researching original GT hubs, they look great. Like most, they are unfortunately out of my legue at the moment. Plus with the mag thing going on with my GT, I dont have a set of wheels to put them on either. It was one of the things that made the Freegard GT soooooo original. Devestated to hear of the crap incident. At least you have come out of it ok and the car will live on, albeit in another state. It's something I fear everytime the GT goes out for a trip. Also, this is how small the world is. I keep in contact with Ken. He emails me to say a friend of his saw a GT looking sad on the back of a pick up, and asked if it was mine. Regrettably I had to break him the news Upwards and onwards, mate. B.

Josh It would seem that repro of any of the Bellett and Wasp lenses would find a ready market.

Cheers guys, Hubcaps are off...unfortunately the complex edge roll profile almost doubled the cost of the tooling against our original estimates, so for 20 sets it would be US$1k/set (4). Given there's been no interest at US$500/set I'll drop it for now. The expense of making polished stainless hubcaps like this these days means they're unlikely to ever be available for less that US$1k at low volume, so lets not mention it again. Re: lenses, yeah, lets get going on some...I will have an indicative price on Silvia tail light lenses soon, GT tail light lenses will probably be the same price. Looks like there'll have to be some careful investigation into what beehive's are being replicated, don't want to go to the expense of replicating something that's readily available! I had a mould for these lenses too, which I passed on to Oz. Samples of the Mazda interior lights turned up today and they are first class quality. A few small changes to make and I'm going to run them again. Good process and materials test run. Badges = piece of cake. The centre badge of the hubcaps could cost ~US$40ea for example, I will have price on Silvia badges soon by way of comparison. Shame Keith found out about the sad demise of the 'Freegard GT', Bruno, but that's the pitfalls of having a unique car I guess. Never mind. Hopefully there will be a happy ending though. Like you say, happy to come out of it okay and appreciate the best wishes mate.

1 thing I thought of was the Early Series Bonnet badge, was thinking first in metal but then thought maybe chrome plastic as I reckon they will get knocked off pretty frequently. what does everybody think??? Also Wasp Tail lights??

I'd go aluminium Josh, it'd be cheaper. If I could get a sample to take dimensions off (and return) it would literally take me a couple hours to finish, then send off for quote. I need to line up Oz for a fact finding mission one afternoon. Cheers, Duane

Didn't think of Ali, I'm guessing the original is Ali, is the one in the picture too rough? If not we can use that one. Chris has got one good Wasp lens.

Digging up this old thread, just out of interest, here's the Silvia badge set I had made...stainless steel (no rust or pitting, strong and close to original weight), sandblasted (for casting effect in centre), polished, chrome-plated, then painted blue and red, an order of 10 sets came in approx. cost @ AU$500 per set.
I have the pitted originals for my car, they can sit in a box somewhere while the repro's take pride of place...I wouldn't be able to restore them for AU$500 anyways. Nothing's a bargain these days, but at least it also proves nothing is 'made from unobtainium' any more, for those who don't have original parts for their car.
Anyways, not spruiking any extra work, but happy to lend a hand if someone wants help getting parts made. I reckon by comparison, a Bellett GT badge set would be less as sandblasting is not required, nor multiple colours.

Hubcaps too, although tooling for these was expensive, which drove the part price up to US$1,000 per set. Was hard to generate interest at that price to some extent, the old chicken v egg situation of increased interest = more customers = lower cost = blah, blah, blah.

Happily for purveyors of fine motoring, Bellett stuff can still be had at a good price, if you're prepared to wait it out. Silvia stuff is not only rare, but every bastard seems to know its rare, so the poor guys who don't have badges are being subjected to some serious profiteering. Still, you pay what you have too, but if you can make it (properly) for less, why not!? Anyways, cheers guys...it's been a tough slog, but I'm glad to have proven the process is feasible, not overly expensive, and can produce a good result in small quantities. I've got more Silvia bits and a bunch of 110S Cosmo bits to do now.
