To the performance gurus. Has anyone replaced the main and head bolts with studs. If so what ones did you use, since Bellett ain't listed Cheers Rob

Rob. When we were blowing head gaskets for a pastime, we put quite a bit of effort getting good studs. Eventually using these, which have been fine. Don't forget though, they are for the G161SS SOHC unit, they also work for the 1800. The ARP numbers are... 10 x studs part number AUS.275-2LB 10 x Washers AUW 750 10 x Nuts AUN12-1 Attachment:

Mark,
Thats brilliant, awesome in fact. I will check to see if the head thickness between the two engines are the same, as i have both engines in the shed up north.

I thought it was upside down also, initially, but 1 hole is staggered (top hole is further back from front edge) so you can't actually do that. The internal passages are different too, so it much be another version for that engine. Mine is also different in that one of the plugs is in the end. The filter would need to be the short one also, to fit. Mine is a longer Z145A.

Hmmm, good spot boys.
I don't remember deliberately flipping the housing when we put the engine together, and combine this with the fact that this engine has now done four races without issue, points at it being OK.
Don't forget this unit came from a Chevvy LUV in the States....could that have something to do with it?

I would bet that a std SOHC engine oil filter casting can't be fitted upside down because of the offset bolt.. Looks like your oil feed to the timing chain tensioner comes off the block too, mine comes out of the oil filter casting.
