pr90 resto begins

1st attempt at upholstery of seat. Will be re making later as i have made quite a few mistakes and does need to be re fitted to get the centre panel better but reasonably happy for first try. .pr90 seats will be red.

Hi Glenn,
Yes is a walking foot machine. The brand is "Typical" but there are a few different types of walking foots. Not all of them are suitable for multiple layers of upholstery materials. I got to try out several different machines while doing a short course at TAFE. The singer machines are much more heavy duty but are much more expensive. Wouldnt advise anyone buying a machine without getting a bit of experience on machines first,there are a 1000 different variations in each brand and its easy to buy the wrong machine. If thinking of getting into it the machine must be a genuine waking foot.

That is still a very good first attempt.
Are the horizontal ribs stitched piping or heat welded?
I copied mine from the originals which had some fine ribbed heat welded
lines which a friend did at a Tafe college for me 21 years ago.

Centre panels are welded. Did enough on machine at tafe to make one complete black and one complete red interior :D Probably won't ever get access to one of those machines again. Was told at tafe there are businesses that just make custom vinyl welded panels to order.

Sorry bullit ,no photos of body restoration yet. Don't pick it up till next month. That's why I'm doing the interior now

I have an old industrial sewing machine here but alas not walking foot type. Always wanted to have a go at upholstery though.

A great result there Claws.
TAFE is a great resource for learning to do stuff like this.Yers ago I did a few short courses as I had time then. (MIG & TIG) Sadly the current NSW govt is ripping money out of TAFE so there will be many fewer of these types of courses available. :roll:
Sorry, shouldn't get pollytickle.
My only point is, get into it while you can.

We're looking forward to watching you do this build, so good to see another PR90 come back to life.

Nice work Claws! I drove down to Ross's with your PR90 grille coz Bruno was saying he would come around, but he bailed so I still have the grille in my ratter Bellett sedan! It's still under lock and key though - the grille is worth more than the Ratter!!!!

Found my old thread i started. Body resto finally started this week, lots of rust sanding, lots of rust treatment. Metal replaced on around inside of rear panels. More rust treatment, sanding, apoxy undercoating and then NOS rear end panels go on early next week.

Learning about fitting NOS panels today that don’t fit to the original factory bodywork. Lots of cutting, bending, oxy, fitting and re fitting. Welding the rear end panels up tomorrow. New sill panels get rolled next week.
