Hi people,

What are people doing for windscreen seals?

I need a front and rear seal for an early sedan (pre body # PR20-4093588).

I had a front and rear made up by Restorer's Hotline, but the front never really fitted properly and the chrome kinda poked out at the corners.

I tried Adelaide's only Isuzu dealer, North East Isuzu, but they were totally not interested in helping.

While we're at it, any source on a GT windscreen seal? Rod from Tassie - what did you do to get one?

Cheers,

Dave

Yo can't believe nobody responded to this?! Surely someone has had to change a screen and replace a seal!

Hi Dave,
I believe new seals are not avail. I don't have any spare used ones. George used a generic one, but it doesn't have the chrome groove. I'll ring & ask him for the supplier.
Cheers, Matt.

Last time anybody got a price on an after market one, the set up cost was around $10k. The corners are the issue. I am hoping to chase up a manufacturer later in the year April. To get a costing.

gt front rubbers are still available fastair spares in brisbane got some in for us the reason i did not come forward earlier on this topic is i orderd them 5 months ago and was not realy getting feedback on enquiries but last monday i got a call to say they are in.
p.s if you contact them they will tell you they do not deal in isuzu parts ask for mark.
pp.s rear rubbers not avail in japan.
I am having gt back window rubbers made i will be dropping a sample rubber of next week if any one needs any. I can drop a later sedan rubber off if any one is wanting them made i do not have early sample.
expressions of interest would be good.

yep. common as mud, mark.
is due to that point being the wher Isuzu glued the join in the rubber, and over 40 years of heat/cool/heat/cool since, they shrink.
the first place they "split" due to this shrinkage is that join.

without getting hold of either a brand new one, or one that is used but not split (and who knows if that one will stay joined anyway............?), the neatest way i've seen of fixing it is to cut a piece off another split rubber, and use it as a "fill" piece.
if the cuts on this piece are neat, and you use some black sealant, the join is almost invisible.

hope this helps.

if anyone is interested phills rotories have a sample rear window rubber that is being used as a sample to reproduce them.Iwas talking to phill on thursday he said he can get them made without the chrome strip insert in small orders but he needs a larger order to have the tooling made,as the tooling could be used for sedans also maybe this is an option, sedan f/r gt f/r to get this done iwe would have to try and get a order together either through the forum or contact him yourself.07 32054433 i have sedan samples here i can supply may need early front if differant.

I'd be keen as mustard to get early sedan f/r seals made. My only concern is dealing with Phill. My brother Rod and I have been burnt by him in the past with Rod's gen '69 R100 10a coupe when we were getting parts and work done.He had bit of a reputation with the "7 of Clubs" (Mazda Car Club of QLD) as bit of a shark back then and the bitter effects are still there a little for me. Once bitten twice shy. In saying that however there is safety in numbers and if there are several people ordering at the same time then I believe there wouldn't be any dramas. It was 10yrs ago when that happened after all and if he is still opperating as Phills Rotorys then I dare say he has changed his buisness practices to have kept opperating this long.
What the hell! Count me in if there is an order for early f/r seals.

They can but it is supply and demand because not everyone wants one and only a small market they do not want to make tooling. So the next best is to make them from a similar profile.I have samples overseas at the moment so factory bends ect but no strip. It would be so much easier to build a holden/chev/ford even rubber strips are always a challange.
