The loading of Peter Lyons' Bellett GT purchased from his son Steve, after travelling down to Port Macquarie and meeting Steve before the auction and spending hours in great conversation about Belletts and his father I realised what a great car this was and a credit to the work put in by his father. My first offer was not successfull but after some thought, my son did the ebay bidding while I was looking after my own father in hospital. My father like Steve's was a true Bellett enthusiast, he has yet to see the new GT as he's had to move into a nursing home but hopefully we'll have him out soon to have a look.

Yes it was a lot of money some people would say, but you can't just pick one up at any local dealer. I always believed that things are only worth what somebody will pay. If we can get the two to breed the size of the litter would decide the price. Unfortunately it's not that easy with Belletts especially the GT's. Thanks for the encouragement Greg at gt orphanage and also for the speedy supply of the windscreen rubber.

This was our first sighting of the GT, after talking to Steve, the work that's been done on this car and the man hours put in, I realised what value it could be, I had to talk the wife around implying that I may have to let the pink one go, but again only at the right price. Amazing that the pink GT once belonged to Steve's dad too.

I'd love to have my own shed dedicated to Belletts as my wife wants her side of the garage back and the deluxe is sitting out in the weather(seen better days, but you never know when you need the parts) but the shed might be next year's project. Sorry for my late posting of all these but I've been busy with my Dad, going through some of his paperwork recently I came across the original reciept for his first Bellett dated 16th June 1966. I recieved this car when I first got my licence, I'll try to post some pictures of this car as well.

nah, dont worry about the shed Gerry... i'm extending mine as we speak, but it still won't be big enuf. the next extension is already being planned before this one is finished! just do what we've done... too many "play" cars (between myself, my wife, my dad, and my brother in law, there's 11 cars, and 3 car trailers..........! that's not including the ones we drive everyday for work, etc.) means putting them in a very secure factory!
and i hope your dad is on the mend again soon. best of luck with the family mate.

It would look a lot better with a set of number plates Gerry dont leave it to long. As for the shed never big enough i have a 3 bay carport/3 bay shed and a 18mx15m shed that is still not big enough. I would like to extend the big one but our council is having issues with the one i have already to big and to high,we had issues trying to build one on a comercial block in town that we own.Its a workshop that needs to comply with epa so i took it upon myself to build one that suited on my property out of town council have been out a number of times to discuss it they have accused me of running a business from home when they visit its got more belletts then work equipment .

Excellent, Gerry! Now the pink one can stay pink. A pair in the garage - looks good! Thanks for showing. What are the chances of having her at Coonabarrabran? Would be nice to see in the metal. Idea!: Bring 'em both, then you can put a 'for sale' on Pinky. (that is, if you can't do the "his & her's" convincing!) Cheers, Matt.

If i was in your situation i would keep the pink one as you stated that they are not easy to come by. Its only my opinion but i think that it would be a lot easier to replace a wife . Is there a way i can lock Liz out of some threads

Nice work Gerry that's a really nice looking machine.
I can't say that any sale of any Bellett since Bellett.net was born was so steeped in controversy!! At least it went to a known Belletthead.
While I like to keep things original or period-style, those big rims on that GT do look pretty damned good!
Get her on the road sooooon!
Cheers
Dave

A bit of background on the pink GT, it has a gemini motor in it, with twin webbers, according to Steve, cam and lots of money spent on the motor, something about a forged crank shaft too which I didn't understand but that is irrelevent as the motor needs pulling down as number three cylinder is low on compression. I took it to Wintersun last year which is really big up here, thousands of cars from all over Australia, mainly American cars 50's & 60's and hot rods. It's amazing the attention the pink bellett got as very few knew what it was. I met a bloke from Sydney called Dave who actually offered me $5000 knowing that work needed to be done on this car and only three days rego left, his family had one he remembered from when he was younger. At that stage it wasn't for sale because I didn't think I'd ever get another one. I always thought it was a 1966-7(PR91, didn't 68 have single headlights?) but may be wrong, it has been kicked out of the shed for the moment so I have driven on trade plate to my Dads garage. I have another gemini motor which seems strong with a five speed still in another car as out on the open road the GT seemed to need that extra gear, still got accelleration in top gear, with those webbers you can nearly watch the fuel gauge go down. If Dave from Sydney is somewhere on this site and is coming up to Wintersun this year maybe we could catch up, he took heaps of photos.
Cheers, Gerry

gerry... yes, early 68 was single headlight GT's. my GT is one of them. was built around Jan/Feb 68. the twin headlight GT appeared in May 68.
below is a 'cut and paste' from a post i've done that references chassis and engine numbers to the approximate date they were built:
PR90/91: Chassis #, Engine #. *1st car built: PR90-4200001, 300001. (G160 spec.) Sept. 66: 4201373, ???. Feb. 67: 4203630, ???. Aug. 67: 4203794, 303617. Feb. 68: 4207378, 314408. (numbers jumped to 310001 for G161 spec.) May 68: 4207950, 334080. Jan. 69: 4208913, ???. Sept. 69: 4209652, 364336. Oct. 70: 4212582, 394414.
have a look at what the chassis numbers of your 2 cars are, and you'll get a close idea of when they were built.
hope this helps.

Hi Gerry,
Congrats on the new addition! There's 2 wanted ads on the forum for GT's aside from mine (sorry, pink's not my colour, hehe), I'm sure you'd find a happy owner between them for your other GT if you're interested in moving it on. Nice to keep these things in the Bellett.net family, as Steve has done with your new car.
Have fun with the new GT mate.
Cheers, Duane

Great to hear all the background and all the history, Gerry. Guess i will have to wait till my kids grow up and i am 70+ before they can talk about the old man being a Bellett Enthusiast and the 2nd generation starting on the passion for the Isuzu's. But i have at least made the start and have enough bits and pieces around to make up a car or 2.
Keep the great stories coming guys. it is what sets this website apart from the other petrol heads and racing wannabee's
Chris

Thanks for the chassis info Brett, the pink one is PR91 4203987 so I make it possibly a 1967, the blue one is number PR91 4204641 possibly a 1968??? Went out to see a friend today to get the run down on fitting bellett windscreens he has a few rusted out wrecks, I tried to get a glove box catch for Greg's Wasp or should I say Liz's Wasp, I thought it would be the same as 66, 64 sedan glove box but I t wasn't there anyway, he's going to have a look for me as it may be stored somewhere. The paint preparation is going well on the blue GT around the windscreen but nothing happens in a hurry around here, too many other projects.
Cheers, Gerry

Gerry, I don't know you, however I do know the car! Yes you paid for it but you have a good car, Peter Lyons was fanatical about the car and was a nice Guy to boot, he was a member of the Sydney/NSW Club many years ago, I visited him when he lived at Wauchope and saw the car then. Peter also had a MU, his plan for that was to tour our great land, unfortunately Pete did not make it!
Peter went to at least one of the Nationals at Canberra. All the best with your new toy! Dave M.

Thanks Dave, with all the recent activity I thought I should update the progress I've made so far. Thanks to Greg (gt orphanage) for the supply and loan of parts.
