hi all.
i've been sitting on this for a few weeks now, at the request of those involved, but as tomorrow (15/10) is the opening day of the "2010 australian international motor show" (aims) at the convention centre in darling harbour, sydney, i thought i'd give all the bellett-heads on here a sneek peek of what's going on....
isuzu ute australia (iua) is to keenly promote their range of d-max utes with more acknowledgement to isuzu's uniquely australian history. some of us have already seen (and have copies of) iua's latest d-max sales brochure that uses the slogan "made from history", showing a pic of a wasp and other isuzu ute's sold in australia over the years, leading up to the d-max of today. anyway, with the biggest event in the australian motor industry looming, iua felt that while it would be good having as many pics, videos, whatever of their 45 year unbroken history in australia on display, having an actual car there would be worth a million times more....
to cut a long story short, iua found me thru this forum, asked me if they could use my wasp, and before i knew it, i'd done about 30 hours of detailing on it.... yep, 30 hours.... and it was being loaded onto a pantec transporter, en-route to sydney.
anyway, i thought i'd let you all know, espech. the sydney-siders and those that sydney is a do-able thing for, as it's a very rare thing to have a 45 year old car on display at an event like the aims, even more so when it's an isuzu, and i dont think we'll see something like it again soon, so it might be worth a look to those interested.
btw.... i'll be at the aims for the launch tomorrow myself, so i'll be sure to get a million and 1 pics, coz it ain't everyday that your car is on display in a convention centre, on top of a 2 foot high platform!
the aims runs from the 15th to the 24th of october.... yes, the last 2 days of the aims is also the weekend of 'another' event involving bellett/wasps/flo's, and hence, as my wasp can't be in 2 places at once, that's another reason why it won't be there.
cheers, and the pics will be on here ASAP.

well that is great that they are interested in the heritage of the early isuzu vehicles. they are very fortunate that there are people who have been collecting and keeping, restoring said vehicles cause without us, there would be no display. cheers

Well done on the detailing and getting the Wasp there, fantastic for all Isuzu fans in Australia and the world for that matter. Nice to see they are now recognizing their history.
Cheers Rob

hi again. was a great day on friday with the IUA guys. very friendly, and a ton of laughs all day! i must admit that while i was involved in the motor trade for quite a while in my previous profession, it was very interesting to be at the motor show on the media/trade day, as it's a side of the industry that i hadn't been around before, and it's was awesome to have the IUA guys let me be involved with their part of it all, and i must thank them for the opportunity. thanks guys, especially Cornelius!! anyway, here's a small selection of the pics i took. on display, with it's own platform, and a nice fence to keep fingers away! how the whole IUA stand is seen as u walk into the motor show, with the Wasp front and centre. Attachment:

the info boards that IUA had made. looked great, and are 99% accurate. mind u, as IUA had no details at all of the Wasp, let alone the Wasp's in Australia, i had to supply some info, all of the original pics, advertisments, the lot! Attachment:

with the compulsorary glamour!! and to be honest, they were very nice girls, knew a bit about cars, and ashley is doing these modelling gigs to pay her own way thru her law degree!! Attachment:

with kasa-san, who is deputy CEO of Isuzu Australia. a great guy, and very much an Isuzu-man, thru and thru. loves the Bellett GTs too!! Attachment:

here's a shot from the IUA show launch. IUA had already released their new model (the LE-II.... very very nice!!) a week or so before the show, but they still did a welcome and opening spot. they had these Japanese-styled drummers playing for a few minutes to start, and were they LOUD!! was great to see, and an honour to have my Wasp centred in it all. some more odd shots... IUA's "time circle". they went this way, instead of the normal "time line" to be a bit different. if u look at the '4 oclock - 5 oclock' area, u'll see the Bellett and Wasp. Attachment:

grandfather meets great, great grandson. Wasp and D-Max LE-II. Attachment:

the rally D-Max of Bruce Garland and Harry Suzuki. only on the IUA stand for a few days, as it's off to south america next week for the 2011 Dakar Rally in january and needs to be shipped. they are putting the 2010 car in it's place for the rest of the show. Bruce and Harry were great guys too, and was wrapped to meet them. a million laughs between them! BTW.... Bruce is about to sell his mkII ford escort, and get back to some old-skool isuzu himself.... with a Bellett. Attachment:

and the only other company to have any "history" on display with a car was mitsubishi, with this gorgeous 'peter wherrett special' sigma turbo. personally, i thought it was a shame with the way it was presented tho.... stuck right out back of their display, and u had to go looking for it, so if u didnt know it was there u wouldnt see it.... congrats to wayne from the sigma forum for the honour of representing the marque too! CONGRATULATIONS, Brett as previously stated, I am going to try to get in there!! Great photos, are the ISUZU people going to Coona, THAT WOULD BE UNREAL!!! Many, many years ago we had the Sydney cars on display with Isuzu, when Mitsubishi had the distribution for Australia. Brings back great memories of our contacts with the Japanese Executives!! Susumu Yamaguchi, Toshi Osako, just to name a couple. See you in Coona.

thanks for the comments guys and girls. was a real honour to be involved, as stated before.
spoke to my contact today who is there for the whole show.... IUA are wrapped with the extra attention the Wasp is creating, and they say that it's bringing more people over for a look, which most then move onto the D-Max's, than they could have hoped for, so the "experiment" is working well! after all, IUA'a objective is to sell more new cars, and this has always been a stratigy to do that, so i'm very happy that it's been a success so far.
also, they've had some high up Isuzu exec's from Japan and Thailand visit the show for a look, including the "Global Head of Design and Engineering", and the "CEO of Austral-asia" (who, i believe, is basicly the next in line of Isuzu heirachy to the company president), and they were all suitably impressed with the Wasp and the whole Bellett/Wasp enthusiast scene in Australia.... read: us all!!.... with the way our cars are being preserved, because even tho the GT's are highly sort after in Japan, the their sedan's at home are mostly forgotten, and the poor ole Wasp just doesn't exist anymore.... so they like what we're doing greatly. my contact has a mountain of pics of the Wasp during all the motor show hype, including promo pics and other pics with the mentioned Isuzu exec's, so when i see them, i'll post some up. i think this will be after our weekend tho, as the motor show finishes on the same day as we do, so the CD containing them will be in the week/s following.
cheers.
