Congratulations on your find PomB

You'll find that the Bellett is far superior to both the Aston Martin and .............the Morris Marina coupe :D

The car came from one of you guys (aka the most helpful bloke on the planet) But I'll let him reveal his identity just in case he wants to remain anonymous for letting a piece of classic Japanese hardware leave Aus.

We should get the car early Jan, then the build starts, if you're interested I'll keep you posted.
And if we get to where we want to be, I'll let you know what we plan for it.
In the meantime I promise not to talk about sport, unless of course, anything is worth pointing out during the Ashes.

Rolie was the chosen one he is packed up ready to go into a container. I don't feel too bad about Rolie it's the 66/67 model that was taken to with an oxy to travel with Rolie.A front cut for extra bits. Don't ask me what is happening as i do not know but the few plans ie sandblasting ect and where to source some bits i get positive vibes. This is the first bellett to leave my ownership i have had a few cold sweats but i have taken another car on to race a little less work to do on this one as it goes :D the down side is its a later model i will race (sprints/hill climb) this one instead.
Bell qld can consider his car sold as it has been living here for a while and Dave kept saying buy off me and race it? i wanted a early model as it makes it a little more competetive,but at least this will allow more time for the gt's.
BTW Dave you a bellett free again.

racing against pr65 cars then later datsun 1600s ect. thats all in production. maybe i am wrong i am only a learner.

for and against in both circles.

pre 65 (group Nb) has some cars more like a bellett, but also has mustangs, novas, EH's, etc.
but Nb rules don't give much room for improvements.... meaning a sedan is hamstrung straight away.
and a GT must be a pre 65 build.... not easy to find at best.

65-72 (group Nc) has later cars, but allow much more room for improvement.
a bellett sedan in this class would be more than competative with a GT cortina, GT escort, KE10 corolla, and the rest of the little 'uns. it'd wipe the floor with the hillman imps!
give me a call tho, and i'll explain the rules, and there are other things involving Nc that i'm involved with as we speak/write that i'm dealing with.

u mention hillclimbs and sprints.... u dont need to comply with these rules for club stuff. u can run a car in any guise u want for those.
my racer is logbooked as a sports sedan, meaning i can almost do whatever i like to it.
or are u aimimg it at historic type events?

i am looking at historic at this stage as i have enough projects on my plate without making to many mods to the car and building roll cages ect and as i said only learning. as time goes on then i may look at cams/logbooks ect. i will contact you soon as things worked out we had a little change of direction and a little unsettled but i will be back on track soon.
(not meant as a punt).
may i suggest pombellett should start having a little chat to you about set up's soon. He has slipped up and mentioned a cage ;).

and cages are a minefield of their own, depending on what racing u do too....
we'll chat mate, coz even the basic rules and regs can bite if u don't know your way thru them!

i have been doing a bit of reading as far as cams and wow. There is a bloke up this way racing a 64 model i have been picking his brains, he is a forum member but he has trouble login on,but i will go for a few tricks as we go, many sources of info only makes them better in the long run. just be thankfull Brett you are 1800km's away or i could drive you mad i have a lot of questions ;) . There seems to be rule changes from state to state also. i have photo's of the car mentioned i will post them soon. i took them at the noosa hill climb last sunday

problem is that the stuff u read doesn't really help with the car itself, unlike ebing around the classes themselves and seeing what the other cars have and what the other guys do.... ;)

the 64 can be raced now, coz they use the original 'appendix J' (now called group Nb) rulebook, but a 65 onwards (ie: group Nc) bellett isn't eligible.... not yet anyway, but it's close!
the regs for them are being written at the moment.
and yep, i'm doing them.
most important thing is the inclusion of disc brakes.... amoung other things involving suspensions too ;)

it's a complicated stroy as to how the situation is like this, and why it is that way, but it basically involves things from the 2 different sets of touring car rules and regs that were used back then being amalgamated into 1 rulebook, so i'll fill u in on the phone.

Hey stickman don't make it harder than it all ready is. :( :( :( at least i have requested photo's and his original owner could not beleive i was going to bring him back to life. He has been informed of his future also and wants updates.
THE LIFE OF ROLIE. His original owner sent me photo's of his hey day's back in the seventies i will work out how to post them here soon.
I will send photo's of him on the truck to brissie to be exported and our new found pommy mate.It will be under wait for it (the life of rolie)i will start from the seventies to the padock,my shed,thedock,marks problem from there.

Sounds like you guys should a national days mourning...I can assure you Rolie's going to a good home and yes he's going to race. Cage is first, whilst that's being done, the engine, now I will be looking for advice on this but I need to go slowly on this.........you can't get a gallon into a teacup just by pouring fast.
We're quite experienced at building race cars but obviously the Bellett is a whole new ball game and I know that one's never been done over here.
First question is how far can we bore out to?
Second question is where did the name Rolie come from?

ROLIE was named when he was rescued from the paddock as it was decided then that i was going to be rebuilt due to being a early car with only a small amount of rust.not including floor pan.at this stage a tree had fallen on him. I bought him unseen as i was desperate for a glove box lock and a few other bits for grumbles ute. i am going to cop it for a while as the much awaited lock is going bye byes :lol:. Rolie was named as it was a joke when i said it was going to be my race car and it may end up on its roof hence the name Rolie. I have been known to have a weird sense of humour.
There is a thread on boring them out(quote 82mm will take gemini pistons 83mm 40 thou oversize gemini unquote) if i had more time i could have packed a set.We are building a engine as we speak and i have a set close but after selling the glove box lock i may be pushing my luck parting with the new engine parts. I can source rods a pistons and send them over as you know we are pushing time for export.
b.t.w those that know Rolie he is a one owner much loved,only driven on sunday low milage car hey ;) ;) ;). there's that sense of humour again:oops:.

Hey there Orphanage, can't have been an easy decission to let Rolie leave home so soon. But cheer up my friend as I have a little glove box lid with latch that needs a new car to call home. It's for the early model which I believe your after. I will get my brother (a locksmith) to give a check over to see if it works ok and then I'll drop it up to you. Just PM an address and I come drop it off and have a fairwell Rolie beer with you.

This is so typical of the Bellett Forum and the members herein....

There is always help and support from both near and far and Greg letting Rolie go for a long trip OS after only just getting him home from Coona is a great example of the sharing and generosity that is rarely found in Forums.

Keep it up guys as i believe you only get out of life what you put in and attitude is everything!
