well my rego ran out on the 24th of december so i stopped driving the bellett until i was going to re register it this month (due to all jap day!) the only thing i have done in this time has to be move it up and down the drive a couple of times.
went to move it today and it wont go into gear, the clutch doesnt seem to be working! i can put it into gear when the engine is of but the clutch seems to be doing jack! when running it definately wont go into gear, tried and thought i better not grind too much more of my gears!
I know there is an adjustment for the clutch there but can some one run me through which way is what? does it sound like simple adjustment or something more?
I really dont feel like pulling it apart just at the moment as im in the middle of moving again and i need it to be going for all jap day (fingers crossed).
i do have a florian g/box and clutch floating around but was waiting till my motor is finished before i looked at using that. thanks for any help!

It would not be adjustment if it stopped working that quick. I would say that the clutch plate has stuck to flywheel, and best way to remedy that is to drive it.
Put into gear and start it and jump on brakes. Ruff but will work.

Could also be the linkage rod has just dropped out of place.
Quite common when peanut mechanics put the return spring in the wrong place

luckily this peanut mechainc hasnt touched that bit yet! i havent had a chace to check it out today but will do so very soon!

I tend to agree with Oz T . If it was an adjustment problem it would be reasonable to suspect this would occur over time.

There is a short rod that operates the throw out arm that comes out of the bellhousing and is easy to see if you look under the car from the drivers side. It has a couple of adjusting nuts on it and is housed into a dome shape recess on the throw out arm. It could have dropped out, especially if you have a bumpy lane/driveway.

The other possibility is that the clutch plate could have frozen to the flywheel but that usually only happens if the car has been laid up for months and months and even years. If this is the case it can be bumped out (on old cars) by starting the car, warming it up a bit , pusing in the clutch pedal, giving it a high idle on the accelerator (about 1200 rpm) and then "crashing" it into gear very quickly - second usually works best, but if you're front on to a brick wall, use reverse.

thanks yellow, i did have a quick look under at the linkages and they all seem to be where they should be, im hoping its just a clutch plate thats a little too attatched to the flywheel. (i recall vaguely i had a similar problem with my hr holden once) will try to bump it apart after work one night this week, would like to get it to all jap day but if it doesnt happen i have a shed (borrowed) and tig welder (borowed too!) at the ready!

It would be a pity not to have a Bellett at an All Japanese day. I spent most of the afternoon on the YP getting it ready for our Just Japanese Day in Hobart next weekend. I usually just start it up and drive it but it has been left up for about 2 months and today all I wanted to do was move it outside to wash and polish it but it idled rough, had a really bad miss, popped like it was running lean and I had to do a thorough timing adjustment, adjust carby, rebuild the rotor button to get it all running nicely again. It's strange how they don't like being laid up. I have a sneaking suspiscion that all the gummy stuff in the new fuels play havoc with them.... but this doesn't explain your clutch problem.

mine seemsnot too worried about being sat idle for a while, only took a few drops of fuel down the carb, choke on and turn the key, let it warm up and she idled like it should! just everything else is not liking it! (also got a flat tyre from sitting there!)

my gt has been in the shed since early dec i was going to get it out over the weekend and give it a run. i don't know if i want to now thanks guy's.

do it gt i just go out to mine and start her up to hear that bellet thunder, makes the neighbours wonder what the hell im doing with that old bomb in the drive!

We have a sedan that does the mail run every day one of our neighbours keeps asking when she can come for a drive in one the problem is she is hot i might keep going .

tried tonight after work to bump it apart, but no luck, tried starting it in gear (reverse) and she started and moved (makes me think i have a fairly low compression motor) but still no clutch movement, tried starting it in neutral and then getting it into second but my complete lack of co ordination i couldnt get it into second to get going. will try again later, take my jack and stands around and have a good look at the linkages too.

hey greg, if she's hot mate, get a bigger car to take her in, coz trust me, a bellett back seat ain't big enuf....

Big problem is her hubby makes me look small he is a big lad with skin not as fair as ours.

i may have upset my other neighbour i got the race car home for a week as it will not be painted till next week,its in putty door jams inside the boot lid is painted. I fitted a new radiator,fuel filter,seats i got a bit done then a little squirt in the back yard . It has a miss down low i will give it oil change some new plugs and points but it feels towee when in comes on song not that i had a lot of room to try it out.
